Question:

Is my college mailing address equivalent to a P.O. box?

I want to sign up for an Internet Savings Account but currently live in college dorms. My family's home is about a two hours' drive away from me.

For my address they say no P.O. boxes. Does this mean I can't use my college mailing address and need to use my home address? Does it count as a P.O. box or is it seen as a regular mailing address?

  1. You can go to the post office to have your mail forwarded. They'll pu a sticker on your envelopes to reroute them.

You can also do paperless statements (have your statements emailed).

  2. Your college mailing address, I'm assuming, does not connect to a specific dorm (i.e. it's not John Smith, Schwartz Hall, Room 312, 312 St. George Street, Lewisburg, PA 17837; an example of a PO Box type would be John Smith, 700 Moore Ave, C-0317, Lewisburg, PA 17837) so then yes, it could be considered a PO Box.  The best thing to do is use your college address as your mailing address for statements and such, but use your home address as your physical address.
