Question:

Is my computer overheating? When I switch on it is 30 Celsius/86 Fahrenheit?

I switched my PC on and went to BIOS. It said the system temperature was 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) and after 2 or 3 hours of idling while still at the BIOS it rose to 43 degrees Celsius (109.4 degrees Fahrenheit). The temperature for the day was 25 degrees Celsius(77 Fahrenheit). Is it unusual for the computer to be so warm? And what can I do to cool it down?

  1. Nope.  Your computer is operating well within normal parameters.  If it was approaching or passing 60 degrees Celsius, I would start to worry.

Your processor generates a lot more heat than that, but it is shed by the heat sink and fan, thus presenting the temp you see.  This is why it is hotter than the ambient temp of the room.

  2. No The normal temperature of the computer is 37 degree celsius

  3. Acceptable temp

  4. That sounds normal, don't worry

  5. The heat created and dissipated by the CPU varies from chip to chip. Some of the older, more power hungry chips would run very hot. Smaller, more efficient chips run cooler and require less active heat removal.

I would consider 43º a moderate to low idle temperature for most CPU's. Although if you are worried that it is getting too hot, you can do several things to cool your PC.

The first is the easiest, clean out the dust with and anti-static air can. You can also try to move some cables out of the way to create more airflow.

If you have one case fan in the rear, make sure it is blowing outward. If you have 2 or more, try to create an even flow of cool air coming in, and warm air coming out.

    (Harder)

Most stock CPU fans have a layer of ceramic that covers the CPU core. It does the job, but I usually end up scraping it off and using Arctic Silver 5 compound. It is more efficient in transferring heat from the CPU to the heatsink. If you wish to apply this to your processor, then make certain that you read the directions on how to do it There are several web sites that demonstrate the techniques, and ways to avoid frying your chip.

  6. That's very hot. Try nitrogen, your CPU will run at below 0 C.
