Question:

Is my course load to big for my first semester at a big University?

I am taking:

Organic chemistry

genetics

biopsychology

juvenile delinquency (sociology)

I am classified as a junior, but am transferring from a community college. I am a serious student and manage my time well. This is only 12 hours, which is actually the least hours I've ever taken in college. My concerns are that because this is a big university (university of Texas at Austin) I will have trouble adjusting to the new, more challenging setting. Is this schedule manageable?

  1. go ahead and try it and work hard at it, see how it works out for the first week or two....I'm pretty sure you can drop the class within a specific time frame, so if it's too much then just drop it....but worth a shot to see if you can work it all out....best of luck!

  2. Ouch!  That is rough.  I know it is only 4 classes and 12 credits but Organic Chemistry is rough and with Genetics and Biopsychology, you'll be ready to rip your hair out!  I suggest that you keep Genetics and Biopsychology since they are complimentary to each other, but I'd take Orgo another semester.  If you have to take more University Electives or if you have a minor, take another course in that area and pick up the Orgo next semester.  Otherwise your schedule is good.  Make sure you keep at least 12 credits so that you're still full time and will not be cut off of financial aid.
