Question:

Is my credit rating the same as my husband's?

We have a joint-account.

He's the principal cardholder, and I'm listed as the secondary cardholder in his credit card.

What does that mean in terms of MY credit (I dont have any other credit cards in my name only)? Also, what would this mean if we were to split up?

  1. Although the previous answer is correct, but I don't believe it answers your question.

You and your husband had separate lives before you were married and had joint credit card, bank accounts, and maybe mortgages and loans.  So before your joint financial life began, you had different credit scores.  Until enough time passed, could be 7 to 10 years, your credit score could be very different.

    Best wishes.

  2. if you have only 1 account and that too join most probably credit rate would be appx same but not exactly.

If you have any other credit card, bank account or financial transaction which is separate, credit rating has to be different.

  3. If you're listed as a joint cardholder, anything "reportable" that happens with that account will show up on your credit report as well.  In other words, the credit card issuer holds you jointly responsible for the account.

I believe that this would be the case even if you were to split up, because your name and SSN are still associated with that account.  You would have to work out the details of who keeps the account and is responsible for it.  However, even if you removed yourself from the account, anything that had happened before the date of your removal would still be reported on your credit report (typically for 7 years).
