Addy is 4 and 1/2 months now and weighs about 19 pounds. She will eat 2 containers of step 1 food at one sitting then finish it off with a 6 oz bottle of formula. Her father and I aren't big people... I don't understand... The Dr. says to let her eat all she wants. I just don't want her to gain to much to fast. What do you think? Anyone else have a little porker at home? She is so darn cute tho!!!

  1. My son is 7 weeks old and weighs nearly 14 pounds. But he is exclusively breastfed and there's no way can he drink too much breastmilk.

Your daughter isn't exactly huge for her age, but she shouldn't really be eating solids so early. They can definitely make her an obese adolescent.

  2. That does sound like a lot of food at one sitting.  Especially for a 4.5 month old, since they're not terribly active yet.  How often are you feeding her do you have a set eating schedule?  What is her disposition like in between the food and the bottle?  Is it possible that she is eating so much so fast that she is unable to realize she's full?  I read somewhere (sorry don't remember exactly... I've read so much since I found out I was pregnant) anyways, I read in signs to tell if your infant is ready for food is their ability to know when they are full, did she ever push the bottle away while there was still some in it before you introduced the food?  Don't get me wrong, I'm all for feeding when a baby is hungry but it just really sounds like a lot.  My daughter is 4 months and she eats 3 tbsp of cereal twice a day and breast milk every three hours (she's 12 pounds and 25" long and a very happy disposition).  If you're both not big people and neither of you came from big people, I'd be inclined to rule out genetics... if your doctor says it's fine then I guess who am I to question?

  3. don't worry what ever weight she gaines i'm sure she will work off when she learns to crawl witch will be another like 2 month's or so....don't worry she is fine she won't be fat.

  4. Well  ...... I'd have to ask why you started her on solids early.  Everywhere you read recommends you start at 6 months.  And also, formula is very fattening, too.

  5. My baby is about 4 and a half months and weighs 17 pounds now. We haven't started him on any solids yet but have been told that he's just fine. He's also 26 and a half inches long, so he's just going to be a big boy.

Don't worry about it. If her doctor isn't concerned then you shouldn't be either. Like someone else mentioned, once she gets to crawling and moving around more then it won't seem like she's putting on weight so quickly. She's healthy and happy.
