  1. it probably is, I think you should get it another hamster, but make sure it is the same gender unless you want the 2 hamsters to fight or give birth.

  2. is it a dwarf hamster? if so that is a good possibility.

but if it is a syrian ( regular) hamster, then no,

regular hamsters are solitary, and territorial. if you were to buy another sryian as a friend, one may eat the other, or just not let the other eat drink or run on the wheel.

back to dwarf hamsters. they love to live in groups or pairs, preferably same sax groups, so they dont make babies.

  3. It is possible that your hamster is just feeling different in his new set up without his siblings around. Hamsters are creatures of habit and always take some time to get used anything new in their lifestyle.Just give him some time and he should relax and get used to his new life style without his siblings. It happened to one of my dwarf hamsters too. He was very active when he was with his siblings and when I separated him from the rest, he became lethargic for a few days but got back to his old self after a week.

Is he a syrian or dwarf? If syrian, they are solitary and would soon love the idea of being alone. Syrians are territorial and solitary when they become adults and they can viciously fight with another hamster in their cage.

Though dwarfs are considered social, many people don't realise the fineprint - they can live together only if they are from the same litter and have been introduced since young. Once they have tasted solitariness, it is difficult to make them live in groups again too.

So whether your hamster is a syrian or a dwarf, I am sure he would be back to his normal active self soon.

One more thing - craving attention need not signify only boredom, it can also mean a hyperactive hamster who wants to play all the time, hence give him a variety of playing opportunities needed to make him happy and active.

  4. I think the problem is it was not ready to leave it's siblings. I wouldn't get another one though, my friend thought her hamster was lonely so she bought sanother one and they killed each other, then again, my other friend keeps two hamsters in two different cages, but they are right next to each other so they can touch noses but can't hurt one another.

There isn't much you can do for a lonely hamster except spend as much time with it as you can. Gradually reduce the attention you give it, and slowly he will start to forget his siblings. Good luck!

If the hamster is really lonely, consult a small animal vet before you buy him a pal.

  5. Well hamsters are nocturnal so that explains the night thing.

She/he could be lonely. If its a Syrian or teddy bear hamster keep them alone. If its a dwarf or something else, get it a buddy!

    :]

  6. hamsters are socail creatures, and need to be with their own kind sometimes rather than humans. you should probaly buy another one. if you have a boy, get another boy.... and vise versa.

  7. sounds like the hamster is lonely. you should get your daughter another hamster to keep the hamster company...

would you want to be in a cage where you can't get out and are trapped all day, with no one to play with and keep you company except toys which aren't even alive?

put yourself into the hamster's place.

  8. it probably is, it will get better though more then likely, it just misses its mates, give it alittle time and if it does not improve think about getting it a pal.
