Is my dog going into heat?

she is bleeding but my male dog isn't trying to hump her. I am watching them VERY closly. He is sniffing her and she is sniffing herself. The bleeding just started today.

The last time she was in heat, we somehow managed to keep them separated and it worked! we did not have pups. I am not having her fixed yet because when we are more educated, we may choose to breed. We are still undecided on that tho...

  1. yes

  2. she is most likely in heat.. so if you dont want pups seperate them.. because if you turn you back for even a minute.. she could get preg... good luck..

  3. yes, ur dog will hop on when u least expect it.so decide quick, and do whats is necessary depending on ur call

  4. Here's and easy way to decide if you should breed or not - Yes she is going to/already in heat

    1. Can you afford the proper genetic tests?

    2. Are your dogs both purebreds of the SAME breed?

    3. Do they come from good/Champion lines?

    4. Are they within the breed standard? Right size shape color, coat types etc

    5. Can you afford to take any and all pups back throughout their lifetime if something goes wrong with their new homes?

    6. Will you be able to give at LEAST a 2 year health guarantee as far as genetic problems?

    7. Do you show your animals?

    8. Are they working or show line bred?

    9. Do you know EVERYTHING about your breed?

    10. Are you a part of your local/national breed club?

    11. Do you know what you have to have done with both dogs before you even mate them?

The list goes one but if you can't answer any of this right now or even know how to figure this out you shouldn't breed. Your dogs are both at least 2 years of age right now? By the time you were fully competent in breeding your dogs would more than likely be out of the prime age range to breed.

Either way keep them separated at all time and you be better off getting them fixed. Subjecting your animals to this every months is not fair to either of them.

  5. OHH YOUR BABY IS! CONGRATS!

  6. Yes she is in heat.  Most females will not accept a male in the early part of heat but separate your dogs now because you don't want to run the risk of her getting pregnant
