  1. sounds like it.   does she seem to be in pain or have any other colored discharge?  if you can't determine for sure that it is heat then you shoudl have vet checked... other posts gave good information too.

here is a link to some books that might be helpful even though you are breeding.

    books in general

  2. Yes, that's exactly what it sounds like.  I'm sure you know that it's healthier to get a dog spay (fixed) than to have a litter of puppies.  Please decide to have her fixed.

  3. The only way to make her feel better would be to get her fixed.

  4. Yes, that def. Sounds like she is in season.

The reason you dont see any blood is because she is l**k-l**k-l*****g it all away.

The one way you can make her really comfortable is by getting her spayed.

Then you never have to worry about her being in season ever again!

  5. Like the other question, I would have thought 4 months is rather a short interval for her to be coming in again.  However it is possible.  In which case (as I did with my girl who came in every 5 months) I think I'd be seriously considering spaying.  I think I'd have her to a vet just in case she has picked up an infection however.  If you are not ready to make the decision about spaying yet, you could put her on the pill - but you need to catch the first show of blood before you do this, for it to work and it sounds as if it might be too late this time?

  6. Either that or she's got an infection.

I suggest taking her to a vet to get her examined in case.

It's wise to de-s*x animals to prevent breeding (and complications).

    But it's all your choice!

  7. It sounds as if she is coming into heat + if she is l*****g herself a lot u may not have the chance to verify this by looking for blood. When u take her for walkies a sure sign would be male attention + also if she stops every few min. to have a wee. Usually it's like a dribble here + there to leave her mark + let the male dogs in the area know about her being in heat, a bit like advertising her condition. A sure sign is having dogs following you.But if you are worried or she doesn't feel well - go + visit the vet. Massaging helps with cramps.

  8. not all dogs bleed every heat, and since shes l*****g like mad shes cleaning it up for ya. LUCKY YOU... yes sounds like shes in the beginning of her next heat. Make her feel better by spaying her, if you don't you just live with it. Live with the blood and swollen coochie.

HEY BEN FRANKLIN DESCENDANT I am not a brainwashed animal rights activist. There is nothing wrong with spaying a dog that is a pet and I worked and volunteer in a shelter that DOES NOT import dogs from other countries. We fight overpopulation daily and strive for decent pet ownership education. NOT RIGHT WING FREAK OUTS. I think you making a very POOR decision in advising a total stranger you know nothing about to go a head and find a stud dog to compliment a female you no nothing about yourself. IF your such a great breeder as your additional info states, thats the last thing you should be advising. TSK TSK naughty breeder. I bred dogs too, and thats not the thing I would ever say to anyone on a Q & A sight. Thats something I would only advise after meeting with a person interested in learning more about it and personally met me first.

  9. The very best way to know if she is bleeding...  Put a diaper on her.

I use parents choice from Walmart.  Put a tail hole in the diaper (on the decorated side) you put it on your girl where the Velcro is on top. It is a great time to give her a bone, or something that will keep her mind off of the diaper.   Leave it on her for an hour, then look at the diaper.  The color of the blood will vary.  Redder in the beginning, going to straw colored at around the 13th day. When it goes straw colored, your girl is at her most fertile time.

If you are going to breed her, please research breeding first, then research genetic testing for your breed.  Make sure you have homes already lined up for the puppies. Pick a stud that will most compliment your girl.  Yahoo offers numerous forum's for whelping help.  Don't allow animal rights brainwashed people to dictate to you what you are going to do with your dog.

Despite the myth of pet over population in shelters, "rescues" and even shelters are in fact importing thousands of dogs from Taiwan, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and numerous other countries to meet the demands of Americans

some shelters even have a waiting list for imported dogs.....Sad to me that our country was cutting the red tape for these people, and now we have strains of crud here in our USA that we have never heard of, or thought to be irradiated. The worst is rabies that have entered VIA imported dogs.

Factual is that we have done such a great job in spneutering our dogs, many shelter do have a shortage of dogs they can adopt out for fees that are sometimes higher than you could have bought from a breeder!

A breeder who does genetic testing, offers breed knowledge, is in fact the optimum place to buy a pet from.  It goes without saying that a dog from a good breeder will yield a parasite free, all possible shots given. The best part of buying from a breeder is you will usually meet the Dam (Mom), In some cases you will get to meet the Sire (Dad).
