Is my dog vegetarian?

This may seem REALLY weird...

Well I'm the only vegetarian in my house, my mom, dad, and brother are all meat eaters. Living in the big city, we decided (Well I really wanted to...) Visit a farm. We were allowed to bring our 1 1/2 year old dog, Jazzy (He's a papillon) He stayed by the cows, chickens and cows the whole time. When we got home, my parents and brother had a hamburger while I had a Boca veggie burger. My brother (He's older then me) likes to give my dog little pieces of hamburger. But my dog REFUSED it, even though he LOVES hamburgers. Then he wanted some of my veggie burger, I gave him a little and he ate it right up. He refuses things with meat in it so it's kind of hard to feed him dog-food. This has been going on for two days and he only eats the veggie part of his dog food and leaves the chicken flavor out..

Is my dog a vegetarian or something? Did he have a bond with the chickens, pigs and cows or something?

thats kinda cool. they do make vegetarian dog food, but it is expensive

You might take him to the vet and find out what's up.

It's not "natural" for a dog to choose a vegetarian diet. But a domesticated dog will develop certain tastes depending  on their experinces. My german shepherd will eat plastic if I let him. He eats plastic caps, clay pots, rocks, bread, cabbage, lettuce, carrots, oysters (with or without shells), ice cream, paper, etc if left alone. I seriously doubt a dog will "bond" with other animal species. Maybe to a specific animal(s) but not species. My dogs won't touch my daughter's rabiits and cats beeing used to them but won't hesitate to eat meat among other things.

It's good perhaps for your own peace of mind that your dog is also a "vegetarian" (at least for the moment) but it's a stretch and wishful thinking that it did so because of some moral and ethical issue about meat consumption.

Depending on where you live, there are commercially available  "vegtarian" dog foods They are usually more expensive than the "regular" dog food though if that's a consideration.

You can vegetarianize your dog with little trouble if you that is something you actually want to look into...

Dogs are omnivores to some extent but I don't think they are suited to being vegetarian.

While domestic dogs can respect and form attachments with other animals that would be prey to wild dogs - I think this be related to dogs like humans not really considering that the meat they eat was just like animal pals.

MORE LIKELY though, is that your dog wants the same food as his owner regardless of his own tastes - this is dog Pschology 101. To your doggy you are the pack leader and the best food is to be had in what he sees you having.

Whatever you do PLEASE keep in mind that some common human edible vegies can be poisonous to dogs

Dogs can be healthy vegetarians, but please make sure hes getting proper nutrition
