She is crying like a maniac with gas pain. I heard a correlation between me drinking milk and how she reacts to it. Any truth in this? your experiences?

  1. Dairy is one of the BIG culprits in colic symptoms among babies who are breastfed. Eliminate it from your diet for a week, and see if it makes a difference. Read labels, too...a lot of food products have dairy "hidden" in them. Very sensitive babies can have reactions to even slight amounts. Good luck!

  2. Yep, it happened to me!

To test and see if it the problem your baby is having, go dairy free for a week, this allows all the dairy to get out of your system.

If you see an improvement, your baby could have a sensitivity to the dairy in your diet.  Once this is estabilshed, you can play around with dairy and see how sensitive your baby is.  Some women need to go completely dairy free while others just need to use dairy products in moderation.  Personally, I found after several weeks of "testing" that I just needed to cut milk out (milk used in cooking is ok) and use other dairy products (like cheese) in moderation, my son is totally fine and much happier!   As long as I don't eat dairy morning, noon, & night like before, little man is not as gassy.

The following websites were helpful to me when I was just beginning:

Both give lists of do's and don'ts and the sneaky ways milk hides in products!

    Good luck!

  3. Yes this is true as well as eating spicy foods would cause her to have bad gas.

  4. Yes. Dairy products can cause gassy, and fussy babies. I actually was just reading about it on kellymom.com!
