i have two hamsters. one of them (stewart) we suspect is a guy. the other (lucy) we suspect is a girl. stewart is very active, crawls all over. hes a basic nut. lucy likes to sleep a lot even at night. she is dosile and gentle. the other day when i picked her up (after holding stewart) she felt heavier. her stomach was also like a buldge. shes been very lazy and hordes food. is she pregnant or is this normal behavior? and can someone also tell me if she is pregnant all the things i have to do to make her and her babies feel at home and safe. thanks

  1. Well I have 5 hammies and 2 of them just gave birth yesterday.(one hammie had 3 other 6 pups.) Yours might be pregnant because when mines were pregnant it started to hoard away food for the nutrient. And it would make deep nests so it can sleep in. So If your hamster does these things, then she might be pregnant but hamsters don't hoard food until they get close to their dute date to give birth. So yours might me giving birth soon. Also if you can see the nipples and feel little lumps on her belly. Then yes she might be pregnant and giving birth sooner than you thought. All you have to do is change or put more seeding chips inside the cage and give it fresh water and more food then it would be good. Other than that, your good. Oh, and don't touch the pups until after the 14th day they were born or when they have fur and start to crawl. You should be good for now.

    YOU SAID 2 MONTHS!!!!!

That's not good. Hamsters should only give birth after they are about 4 months. Now all you've got to do is really don't bother her at all until the babies are able to be touched. Your hamster is just like mines. One of my hamsters is about 2 months and she got pregnant. I did'nt know what to do because people was like that she might kill the babies because she was too young, or she might die giving birth. But she gave birth yesterday to 6 pups and is doing fine. She''s feeding them like she did all this before. I was shock but I'm so happy now.

  2. If you know for sure they are a girl and guy, SEPARATE THEM! It's not good for store bought animals to breed. It shortens their lifespan and the babies usually don't survive. But if you think she is, check her stomach. If she has swollen nipples, she's pregnant. Separate her from the male and prepare for her pregnancy by doing some research.
