Is my finger broken??

I was throwing around a football with my older brother and he threw it a bit too hard/high and he bounced off my left pointer finger. I thought i just jammed it like you do in basketball but it really hurt and now like five hours later it still hurts a lot! It's a bit swollen and I can bend it but it hurts a ton.

  1. Might be a sprain. Even if it was broken dr wont do anything unless it was a real bad break then I guess you would be able to tell if it was all bent. All the dr woulds do for a break is strap it.

Try strapping it with some tape to you index or ring finger. Leave it strapped for a few days then see how it feel. My son broke his finger and that's what the hospital did. He had it strapped for a week it was still sore for a couple of weeks after we to the tape off..

  2. without seeing an X-ray or a pic of the finger, Can't tell.  I have seen both sprains and fractures present like this.  best to check with a doctor or urgent care center to check it out if it continues to cause pain.

  3. its juss jammed if you pull it & shake it @ the same time then you will be okay

dont do it once do it a couple of times a day

  4. exact same situation happened to me, except it was my left ring finger that got jacked up catching a football. my buddy thinks he's brett favre, and was chucking bullets from ten yards away, in the dark no less.

anyway, i highly suggest seeing the doctor. i wrapped mine up in a splint and waited for it to heal, since it didn't feel like a break, but now it's been five weeks and it still hurts to bend it! i'm not sure why it hurts; because it has been immobile for five weeks or because it really did break and hasn't healed correctly. now i'm left wondering, and looks like i will have to get an x-ray taken, after all.

so, i can tell you from experience, my advice is to skip all the worrying, wondering, and guessing and allow the pros tell you for sure what's wrong. it may seem like a hassle (time and money-wise) to see the doc, but if you don't treat a break correctly you could be stuck with a deformity or arthritis in the finger for the rest of your life. not fun.

    good luck!
