  1. sweatshirt(underarmour is best)

    jacket

    hat

    ski gloves

    scarf

    face mask

    ski pants(bibs are best)

    ski socks(your boots will feel so much better with these)

    *make sure you get poles, when you rent the equipment, they help so much with you balance, and speed*

  2. you should get a hat, scarves , warm gloves, warm winter coat, wool socks, or double socks, and snowpants, and if your renting equipment they usally give you shoes

  3. well starting at the top, would suggest a hat and/or a helmet but probs not needed for your first ski trip unless you feel you want extra safety. A jacket, depending on the place your going, Europe would suggest a jacket with lots of vents, or colder, higher resorts such as America a down jacket would be a good idea. best idea is to layer your clothes, a good wicking shirt, and maybe a thin jumper/hoody then the jacket over the top. (can always remove layers, but cant add them if you don't have them.)  first timers spend alot of the time in the slush/on the ground, so would highly recommend a good pair of gloves that are waterproof and warm. salopettes, can also wear thermal underwear underneath if its v cold.  and several pairs of nice warm ski socks. also goggles/sunglasses,suncream,lipcream,sma... rucksac also handy, drinks bottle, clothe for goggles/sunglasses. think thats it realy lol.

    ps. summer sales are fab for getting bargains, but guess that will be to late. hope you enjoy skiing 2 :)

  4. just wear some PJ pants and a cut off t-shirt.....Sometimes its not REAL snow so its not cold

    Gear List

    You will need to have organised at least the following:

        * Waterproof windproof outerwear - jacket and pants.

        * Warm underlayers - thermal underwear tops and bottoms and a fleece or other pullover

        * Gloves - insulated and water and wind proof.

        * Beanie (toque) or helmet for keeping your head warm.

        * Goggles or sunglasses for wind and sun protection.

        * Socks

        * Boots (ski or board)

        * Skis or board

        * Poles

    Dressing for the weather

    The snow is a cold environment. But you are exercising and getting hot. What to do? The best thing to do is dress in layers that you can add or remove to control your temperature. You may have a base layer of thermal underwear, a second layer of light fleece and a waterproof outer layer. Cotton is not a very efficient insulator, and is even less effective when it is damp or wet. The outer layer may be padded and insulated, or just a shell. Many people prefer a shell as they believe that this offers the greatest flexibility. You can buy parkas with zip out padding. Other parkas have "pit zips" - zips under the armpits that can be opened or closed to regulate ventilation. How many layers you need, and what they are made of, depends on your metabolism and tolerance for cold. What you need can only be discovered by experiment.

    One way to control temperature is with a hat and neck gaiter. You lose something like a third of body heat through your head and neck. If you are hot, take your beanie off or open your helmet vents.

    Good, waterproof gloves are vital - cold hands make you miserable.

    If you are a beginner you will fall often. Snow can be wet, and a waterproof and windproof outer layer is vital. Jeans or trackie daks and footy jumpers will get wet and misery will soon set in not to speak of hypothermia. Wet cotton provides no insulation and you will get dangerously cold very quickly, particularly if it is windy.

    You will also need eye protection. goggles give wind and sun protection, and can generally be used in all conditions. Sunglasses do not give as good wind protection, and many make it hard to see in foggy or cloudy conditions.

    You cannot hire gloves, beanies or goggles. You must buy, or borrow from friends.

    Sun Protection

    Although it is cold, you are at high altitude and there is less atmosphere to absorb radiation. Snow is also highly reflective. The combination means that sunburn can be a real problem, even on overcast days. Make sure you apply sunscreen regularly. Don't forget the underside of your chin and nose - the reflected light can burn these areas.

    For the same reason it is important to wear eye protection - either sunglasses or goggles. Snow blindness does happen, and is apparently very uncomfortable.

  6. It depends on where you're going.

    Get a good helmet, some ski pants (you can go to some random store to get those, it's not hard.  I got mine @ TJ Maxx...), you'll probably need a jacket, make sure it's not a WINDBREAKER.  And then just wear a t-shirt underneath the jacket.  You'll need gloves too, and GOGGLES.

    You don't need goggles if you're going somewhere NOT too windy, or something.  Just wear sunglasses or something.

    It all depends on the condition on the slope.

    So... good luck on your first time skiing... hope I helped... :)

  7. You want to wear three or four layers of clothes.

    Inner layer - you want this one to be wicking and non-cotton.  Long johns are good and are best if they are synthetic materials and close fitting.

    Middle layer - fleece is ideal for this layer.  Sweatshirts/sweatpants will work but they're not the best because when cotton gets wet (from snow or sweat) it doesn't hold in warmth and is really heavy.  Cold cotton sucks.

    Outer layer - waterproof is key!  You want it to be loose-ish so that you can fit as many or as few sweatshirts and fleece jackets as you need underneath.

    None of these things are terribly expensive and you should be able to pick up fairly cheaply at any big box store or even borrow from friends and family.

    Don't forget a hat and gloves too!
