Question:

Is my fish gonna be okay?

I have two male bettas, one is a crowntail living in his own three gallon tank, the other is a halfmoon living in his own three gallon tank.

My crowntail was moved to my book stand after my other betta died (older one, not the halfmoon) and the baby halfmoon went on my dresser where my crowntail was.

My crowntail as been acting weird the last few weeks, quiet, not really attentive, but if you're wearing black and approach his tank he flares up at you, I thought he was normal. I got him in April, and he was supposed to be only 3.5 months when I got him.

My halfmoon is fine, but my crowntail seems really upset and just unhappy. I clean him every 2 weeks 100% (yes, because I don't want to deal with the ammonia and nitrate problems) and add Aquarium Salts, AquaSafe, and Distilled water. I've also been adding some BettaFix to see if that'll perk him up.

Nothing yet and he's barely eating.

Is he gonna be ok? Is there anything I can do to make him better off? Please, no one say ''flush him'', that's a incredibly cruel thing to do!!

Thanks in advanced...

  1. Yes i have a male betta. It's probably lonely just give it some time.

  2. How big is your crowntail's tank? You might need to change the water more or less frequently depending on that (smaller tank = more, larger = less).

I would also recommend trying partial water changes instead of 100%... you're avoiding ammonia and nitrate problems, but you're also depriving your fish of a stable tank environment over an extended period of time. Also try using dechlorinated tap water instead of distilled water...

  3. Sorry, I have no idea but I hope he gets better!

  4. Well... a 100% cleaning is not good. You end up getting rid of GOOD bacteria that actually help to break down the fish's waste. A 25-30% water change is better, unless You test the water and it's off the charts.

Ummm... is the book solid, would pick up a lot of vibrations (ie. walking through the house etc) The book stabd may not be sturdy enough annd may be shaking/ vibrating which may be stressing your fish. Then again... I had one very particular fish who did not like being relocated! Whatever is going on... good luck to You and your little fishy.
