Is my front tooth going to fall out????

Im freaking out a little - I have just found a hairline crack running from top to bottom of one of my front teeth. Its really slight, but definately there.

I know what its from - I was surfing in Costa Rica a couple of weeks ago and got a smack in the mouth with the board, I was asking everybody are my teeth cracked, are they ok etc and it all seemed fine.

My worst nightmare would be my tooth to fall out.

I have rang my dentist for a stat appointment.

Please if you have experienced any similar situation i would appreciate any insight good or bad, although i cannot deal i will just have to.

This happened to me and I'm sorry to say that I have one tooth less in my mouth because of it.

If the crack runs right down past the gum line then you can kiss it good bye. If not then they might be able to cap it.

Other options are if you end up losing it are to get the tooth bridged or wait 6 months and get an implant in it's place.

If the crack is bad enough, the tooth will have to come out.  Then they can replace it with a bridge or an implant.  If it is not to bad, they can try crowning the tooth to keep it stable.  So no matter if the crack is bad or not not to bad, they are ways to fix it.  Some just cost more than others.

Are you sure its not just a craze line? Google some images of craze lines. Many people have them, very common.

Your tooth is not going to fall out! Did your gum bleed a little and or was it loosened a little? If not don't worry about it. If it was loosened and bled a little, over several months or years the nerve may die (not always); then the tooth will darken and a root canal treatment can be done, followed by bleaching to restore the color. This leaves the tooth brittle and if received another blow may need a post crown, etc.
