Question:

Is my funny stance disrespecting the game?

I've been playing for 5 months and I have a bad slice with my driver. I even took lessons for 3 months and I corrected it but lost a lot in my distance. I went back to my old stance which is pretty much aiming left. When i strike the ball it goes left to right which makes it land 90% of the time on the fairway straight on. The guys I play with have banned me from playing with them because they say I need to learn how to drive "correctly" or I'm just disrespecting them and the game. I don't have a problem with my other clubs just the driver. Is this really an unsportsman like thing I'm doing?

  1. Good. Let those pompous jerks cheat (probably), lie and play badly together, you're better off without them. Knowing what shot you can or cannot hit is one of the greatest thing any golfer can know. Good luck.

  2. Golfers are notorious for being the snobbiest people. That's why I enjoy wrecking greens with my car in the middle of the night. s***w golf.

  3. if your hitting the fairway and not hitting people then there is nothing wrong, or un-sports man like about what your doing

  4. Play the game properly, and by the rules. It might help to look for a golf course with a lot of dog-leg rights! Then listen to a different song and dance from your "buddies".

  5. As long as the ball is going where you expect it to go consistently, there's no reason to change. Remember Lee Trevino? He has a wicked slice, but decided to play it instead of fix it, and look where it got him.

For most people, fixing their slice would be paramount. But most people cannot hit a slice consistently enough that they know where it's going. If you are being completely honest that you're hitting the fairway 90% of the time, then just play it.

  6. I have a friend that does the same thing, we love it when once in awhile he uncorks a big one but it doesn't hook, it usually happens when there is water left. I'd keep aiming left but keep working on the problem, or try teeing off with a 3 wood or shorter shafted driver. Good luck.

  7. Omfg you cant be serious that is the biggest load of BS I have ever heard in my life... Mate heres my suggestion you have a slice, allow for it and thats exactly what you are doing.. those so called friends are jealous because you can do it over n over again, there is absolutely no SUCH THING as disrespecting the game... Those 'friends' need to wake up too em selves and stop playing golf. You dont deserve to play with wnkers like that... keep it up!!

  8. You're golfing buddies aren't really your buddies or not real gentelmen.

The object of the game is to get the ball in the hole, regardless of your stance.

  9. and you call those people your "friends"

  10. Lee Trevino doesn't have a wicked slice, he has a controlled fade. Even with a controlled fade he didn't compete well on courses with narrow, tree-lined fairways. That's why he has two Open Championships but only one top-ten in the Masters. The person asking this question has a bad slice. The two aren't the same. Get your slice fixed.

  11. I, too, played with a golfer that plays the same way. His shots are terrible and his score is horrendous and now no one will play golf with him. Just takes too long. You're the only two people that I know that play like that. I'm guessing you could get it fixed. I don't know how you lose distance by fixing your slice. Get a different instructor and cure it. You'll enjoy the game so much better. It has nothing to do with disrespecting the game.
