Question:

Is my gaming computer futureproof?

I am building a gaming computer and I know there is no such thing as future proof but I want to know if my rig will last a few years and could upgrade easily.

These are the basics:

AMD Phenom X3 8750 2.4GHz

GIGABYTE AMD 790X

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 4850 1GB ( one card not two crossfired)

4GB DDR2 RAM

19" Monitor

CHIEFTEC Turbo 850W

Now I don't need any recommendations for any INTEL or NVIDIA products. they are just too........well ****** them. If they are AMD or ATI products that would be fine.

  1. maybe your processor

  2. To be fair mate, whilst that's an awesome spec you have there, no computer is future proof...

However, for gaming, that should last you a couple of years, I reckon, without any upgrades...

    Good luck with it!

  3. The triple processor is good, and will be easy to overclock. WOrks well with the motherboard - which new graphics cards would be easy to replace.

Good graphics cards, but you wanna make sure it will be compatiable with DX 10 and everything.

4GB DDR2 is good, but in the future you might wanna upgrade to DDR3

Power supply is fine, as long as you checked its compatiable.

All you need now is a good base, and I would recommend dual 500GB HDD, or if don't mind it being a little slower/cheaper - go for the TB hdd

    Good job

  4. i reckon it is future prof all you need to concider in 1 year maybe a better processer and maybe a better graphics card.

    morgan

  5. nice spec, but nothing is future proof when it comes to computers, it will be around top spec for maybe 12months, but when intel & amd add more cores, and they will, no one knows what sockets or speeds they will run at

  6. That will hold up well for about 1year, but then on it will slowly start to lag behind but it appears to be a setup with good upgradeablility. The thing on there that will last longest is probably your powersupply lol, the irony. Id recomennd you get a 3.0GHz dual core AMD rather than a 2.4GHz triple core as games currently can only use 2 cores and having 2 3GHz cores is better than 3 2.4GHz of which it can only use 2, Plus the X3 series is new and as such needs some refinement where as the X2 is a veteran and well established is thats the right word.

  7. Yeah it's reasonable ... but with all computers the day you get it built and plug it in ... it will be obsolete

If you're planning on running 32bit OS then the 4GB Ram will be wasted ... but Ram is cheap so better to have some spare in case you pop a stick :)
