My gf's grandma recently passed away for cause of old age and they were really close. She thinks it could be her grandma trying come in contact with her. And since then wierd things happen such as:

- Lights coming from no-where shining thru blinds to wall

- Light bulbs being unscrewed

- Light bulbs popping

- Closet door opened after being closed repeatedly while away

- TV turned on or off by itself

Any thoughts?

  1. ?

  2. This could very well be her grandmother letting her know that she is still around and watching over her.  That would be my guess!

  3. I want to say maybe she's just being paranoid, you know her gradma died, she seeing every little thing that happens to her to be some wierd ghost chat, but if you really think sumthing wierd is goin on then can't help yah there. The things that are happening aren't really "messege-y" just "contact-y" like she's not writing c**p or showing you pictures with meaning is she? and hav u seen these things urself or only her?

  4. Psychokinetic manifestations of a grieving brain.

  5. I would guess its not her grandma, as human souls do not get trapped on earth. If it is paranormal in nature, I would guess it was a parasite that was attracted to her grief.

However, she may just be reading into things that have always been happening, just she didn't notice.

We all like to believe our relatives are still around us, although the Bible says differently. If she and her grandma were Christians then being trapped on earth is not a possibility, and her grandma is in heaven.

However, grief and fear can cause manifestations, real or imagined, this is known.

  6. Was the grandmother an electrician?  If not then why would she bother with electrical equipment?

I think you're working yourselves into a frenzy, where everything is a ghost.

  7. To GhostH: Ok, well lets see your "professional" evidence and I want to see some pictures you have taken to back up your orbs and such.  If you cannot see two people in our apparition picture, you must need glasses as everyone else does, including a few people who are die hard skeptics.  I included the original photo and an up close one with better contrast and you can clearly see them, so you're unique in the fact you cannot.  Criticism is fine, but when you can just put us down without backing up your claims, it's not really much but you trying to be superior to people you do not know and know nothing about.  And, to answer one of your many assumptions, we do have a 1 million candlelight lantern, in fact we have several.  We consider ourselves knowledgeable, we have ruled out many things now we considered in the past to be ghosts, but we are also very convinced and stand by our evidence as we take a great deal of care to rule out natural causes and natural phenomenon.  And, we know how to tell the difference, thanks for your concern!  We know how to pick out apparitions from forms in the clouds (that part made me laugh).  And no, we are not scientists nor professionals, as we do not make a dime off our investigations.  We are a team of people who have each had paranormal experiences, and are interested in investigating places reputed to be haunted.   You do not need a degree, or go overboard to investigate the supernatural, in fact a simple camera, an audio recorder, and tons of patience with an ability to not call everything a ghost is all you really need.  The other stuff is not necessary but more compliments.

Not only that, but to the guy who said we know nothing about "thermodynamics" how does fog exist with a dry hot day, and how come we do not have said fog in every picture, those pictures were selected out of a few hundred we took those times?   Fog is moisture in the air, and for someone who knows so much did you know fog does not show in photos, if you take a picture of fog you will get a picture that is clouded over, either barely or a lot.  So much for physics 1!  We do not smoke, and maybe you missed the part where we hold our breath before taking each picture, not to mention we RULE OUT NATURAL CAUSES.  I don't know but keep up the criticism if it makes you sound smart or better, or more informed.  Oh, and fog does not exist in spots, it is everywhere or not there.  The only way you can take a picture of fog is to take a picture from a distance of say a field with fog above it.  Once you are in fog, it just clouds over your picture.  We have also checked this out and have found that out every time.

We know what we are doing, and we debunk about 95% of the stuff we think we captured as evidence, it's a long and tedious process.  And, though we do care what others think, but to those who like our pictures, well that is why they are there.     We usually do not consider orbs evidence, in fact it may well be dust as I even said in the photo caption.   It is just strange that I had stopped for about 5 minutes in that spot (yet no other photo had that many orbs in it, with 4 being the max in other photos.) not to mention before I snapped the photo, I felt like there was something behind me.  It's great putting other people down, but again we have been doing this a LONG time, so we consider that we have ourselves covered.  Plus, assumptions are lame so you should stop them.

Ok, to answer this OP question, you REALLY need to be subjective (as you do not seem to be subjective at all), get more people to witness these events, instead of getting scared, find out what exactly it is that is happening, RULE OUT EVERYTHING and I agree, in the afterlife I do not think her grandmother was an electrician, so have a professional electrician come out and look over everything, as it may be faulty wiring.  Do you live near a quarry or a spot where earthquakes happen a lot?  The vibrations can be loosening the bulbs, and most of the stuff you described has nothing to do with the paranormal but maybe grief and over active imaginations coupled with maybe a creepy setting.  Do some of your own research on the house and area around it and determine if there is a way to rule out most of the happenings.

If you are STILL convinced her ghost is present, get a hold of some investigators and have them do an investigation and see what they say.  I would be more than willing to bet they will not find anything.  But, with only reading what is happened there it is impossible to have a true conclusion.

  8. How come such manifestations always have to do with crazy non sequitur events like light bulb unscrewing and such?  Can't ghosts pick up a pen and WRITE SOMETHING that is more easily understood?

All those "manifestations" are the product of overactive imagination.  There is no such thing as ghosts.  Get a grip with reality.

  9. Actually, another thought that comes to mind is that if she's been under a lot of stress her entire energy could be kind of screwy which MIGHT explain the light bulbs popping...if her energy is erratic it will find the nearest (hottest) energy source...such as light bulb, TV, etc. She could even be hitting the outlets but there is no 'visual' coming from those areas.

I'm not saying that is it; I just know that there are times when I'm more than a little mad that the florescent will flicker.

The closet door could have been from anything; I had a house once where the closet door would pop it's latch if you walked too hard upstairs.

Grandma could be around; or something else...but you might try having her do some relaxation therapy; meditation, grounding, etc before you worry about "spirits" too much.

Any meditation audio would work; I suggest about 30-60 daily for the first two weeks...then it can drop down to about three times a week until she is feeling more balanced.

If that doesn't seem to be helping; a ChT (clinical hypnotherapist) might be an option; look for one who does past lives and such --- I see one but not for hypnosis, just for someone to talk to...and I can feel free to discuss my "spiritual" issues.

As far as the grounding...hug a tree; literally.

  10. It sounds like she's got some one around her, possibly her grandma, or any body that she was close to. These things are just a way to let her know that there is someone visiting her. I've had something like that happen to me. The water in my house came on all by itself. Things being moved from where I'd left them. It's all harmless. Just tell your girlfriend it helps to talk to her grandma. That way she knows that the girl knows she's there. I believe mine is my dad that passed away a few years ago. Plus he likes to play tricks on my kids. I look at it that he's still around and that he's letting me know that. I hope this helps.

  11. There is nothing you mentioned that indicates the paranormal. You have already received many great answers as to light bulbs coming unscrewed, I have to s***w mine every few days.

Now I am not a skeptic and I know ghosts exist because I have seen them and know that when they want to contact us they can, they do not need to use extreme hidden messages.

Ghosts can also contact us through dreams. Dreams are the most common form of communication after the death of a love one, but is often just mistaken for the grieving process, which is part of it, but ghosts do communicate that way and we need to be aware of this. A loving grandmother would not unscrew light bulbs because of the danger it creates.

One thing I try to educate people about is the so called "professional" who claims to be a scientist, but has no scientific degree and many times only a high school education, but they have an interest in ghosts , own cameras, thermo scanners,  EMF  meters and other equipment and go out side at night where dust is common and take pictures. Thes are the people who attend a weekend seminar and presto are instant "professional" parapsychologist and paranormal investigator.

Every dust particle and any fog captured on film or digital camera  is a ghost according to them. In my years going to graveyards and battle fields and other historic places that can be haunted I noticed that many of the fog that is captured on  film or digital camera is just that fog. I used to claim these were ghosts until I opened my eyes and started observing that everytime we captured something like this one of two things was happenning. One the fog would be there but just barely and in the dark you could not see it.

Or sometimes film gets fogged for some reason. a first year first semester photography course will reveal that fact.

The man who posted his website for all to view has only natural dust orbs in the pictures of orbs and the so called apparitions if you look closely you see the images are in either grass or brush and faces and images   are common in such things.  People are alwasy seeing either Jesus or Mary in paint or walls and such.

If we look hard enough we can always see faces or images of people in such things . You can do an experiement by going to some woods and randomly start taking pictures and when developed you will find if you look hard enough you can see what looks like people in the bushes and brush and grass.

I am sorry Cook county, but as a paranormal investigator myself I know the difference in ghosts and dust. Please start taking a one million candle power spot light with you when investigating sites and shine it in the air and you will see what the camera sees. the spot light will reveal the unseen fog also.

I have captured only two orbs that I consider paranormal out of hundreds of photos and these two are solid glowing light like and one is moving and has a contrail behind it like a comet and they both cast a shadow. I did look at your orbs and again I am sorry, but it is only dust. But I bet you claim to be a "professional".

Ghost exist and I have documented many things that cannot be explained naturally but as far as ghosts the only time I was sure I saw a ghost was when I mistook them for live people until they disappeared before my eyes.

All paranormal investigators who post photos should learn the difference in dust and paranormal orbs. EVP when captured is more convincing, but alas I am still waiting for my first REAL  EVP.

  12. Find the prankster.

  13. IN A SINCE NO! THESE ARE JUST NORMAL THINGS

  14. There is nothing paranormal about lights shining through windows. They could come from anywhere. Light bulbs can become loose in their sockets from thermal expansion and contraction. I have one socket that does that. And light bulbs go bad all the time.

As far as her closet door, I'd have to look at the closing mechanism, or if it even has one. The TV? Random IR signals can affect any equipment that uses IR remotes. In fact, the compact fluorescent bulbs emit strong IR and have been known to do just this.

My thoughts are that your girlfriend is sad and looking for signs of her grandma still in her life, which is normal. But these things are just normal everyday things. They are not paranormal.

Besides, why would her grandma want to unscrew her light bulbs?

EDIT: For Cook County Paranormal posted below -- your objections against skeptics rest on a misunderstanding of thermodynamics and a few photographs I didn't find all that compelling, especially the "orb" photos we already know are caused by reflection off particles in the air.
