Is my goldfish dying?PLEASE HELP!

Question

yesterday i got a goldfish from walmart. Its a little one. i have it in a glass bowl. decent size. my fish opens and shuts his month all the time & sometimes at the top of the watter! && i heard that if they open there mouths above water that there gonna die? & my second question is how do you tell if its a male or female?? && my third question is what are signs of goldfish dying!? PLEASE HELP!! i dont want it to diee!!

im not an expert on goldfish but it might just want some food. if it doesnt eat than it probably is dying. Hope it doesnt die!!!

Your biggest mistake was Walmart,yes sorry to say i think he is going to die.I wont lie to you on this i don't know how to s*x Goldfish.

just becos its a walmart fish...does not mean it will die...it will die in a decent sized bowl even if it were from a very good bred fish store...

Opening mouth at the surface means its gasping for air....which means there is no oxygen and the decent sized bowl you think is not decent enough for your goldie...

Seriously..what kind of goldfish is it???..a small one meaning common or feeder goldie??...If so get a  20 gallon tank for 1 goldie...start with that with a potential to upgrade to a bigger tank in future...that small goldie gets big and it needs a lot of room and very strong filtration..it will survive perhaps a week or so in the bowl..get a big tank and good filtration and see the difference..

goldfish are rather hard to keep...invest in a big tank setup and your goldfish would not gasp for air...and neither die early like in a bowl..Research enough..and then get a pet...I think if you cannot get a tank just give him up..return the fish...

To answer your second question...sexing a goldfish is difficult...lets just say..get your basics right and while you research on goldfish..you will find your answer..there is a lot of info...but for now its difficult to know if your goldie is a male or female..leave that question alone..and invest in housing him first...

Signs of dying goldfish..is when they are kept in a bowl..that is the biggest sign...

not to be rude but your goldfish will do much better in a fish tank with a power filter. only a betta can 'survive' in a fish bowl.

It means the water in the bowl is running low on oxygen. Since goldfish produce so much waste the waste is turned into bad stuff that can kill the fish and take away the oxygen. I would advise you to buy a 10 or 20 gallon fish tank with a filter for your goldfish. It will live longer and be happier.

To s*x a goldfish its best to wait till its at breeding age, so like 1-2 years old. Here's a couple links to help you:

Well, the signs should be pretty obvious. Swimming around uncontrollably, turning upside down, not being able to swim to the bottom or top of the water, ect. ect. ect..

He is dying from lack of oxygen, poor water quality, and ammonia buildup. All of these are caused by keeping hem in a fishbowl and are therefore easily cured by putting him a five or ten gallon tank for a minimum. If you leave him in the fishbowl he will die soon.

well, your fish WILL die if you don't get him a tank with a filter

your goldfish is not dying yet...

goldfish can not live in bowls firstly because they can not hold enough water (20 gallons for a normal goldfish, 10 for fancy) and second they don't  have a big enough surface area. You must never keep a goldfish in a bowl,you must get a bigger tank, but this may take a while so do a complete water change and only fill the bowl half way to increase surface area. Your goldfish is gasping for air.

you will need:

20 gallon tank

filter

air pump (u can sometimes get them combined it will stop the gasping)

You will have to do regular water changes until you get the new tank ok?

He will not live long if you do nothing.

also get some goldfish medicine just incase, dont use it yet though.

To answer your question on signs of a goldfish being sick/dying..some are:

darting around the tank

red streaked fins

little white dots

loosing balance whilst swimming

floating near top

sitting on bottom

gasping on top

worms or parastites hanging off him.

sexing goldfish:

a male will have breeding stars on his gills sometimes, these are small white spots, just on his gills, sometimes confused with the disease white spot.

a female will get larger around the stomach sometimes (befre she releases eggs)

if your goldfish is stunted (which it will be if kept ina bowl all its life) it will not show these

yours may not because it is probebly too young to tell.

Not sure how to tell if it's male or female.

If the goldfish is dying, one sign it will start to float up towards the top of the tank and not be able to swim back down.

don't worry opining its mouth above water is nothing,one sine that its ill is white specs in its tail but that doesn't  mean its gona die all you need to do is get some medson to put in the water, do this evrey time you clean him out.and he will be fine.

well my answer to your first question is no they do not open there mouths when they r gonna die.

the answer to your secong question is tht during spring if you fish gets fatter than tht tells you that she is ready to find a boy and have babies

the answere to your 3rd question is if it is having trouble swimming or rolling onto its back and also when it stops pooping for 5 days.

Needs to be in a tank, not a bowl, with pretty heavy filtration. Your fish won't last long in a bowl.

WELL U CAN TELL IF ITS DYING IF IT SWIMS ON IT'S SIDE THATS A SIGN THAT IT'S BODY IS SHUTING DOWN O AND THE MALES HAVE  LIGHTER   COLORS TO IT AND THE FEMALES KIND OF HAVE A DULL PLAN COLOR TO THEM O AND WHEN THEY OPEN THERE MOUTH THAT MEANS THAT THEY WANT FOOD HOPE THIS HELPS LONG LIVE YOUR FISH FRIEND
