The hamster probably wants something to gnaw at and climb in.  Try buying it some toys and things like salt balls which they can gnaw at and wear down.  Also are you giving it enough water, it should be changed regularly so that it is fresh, especially in summer.  Also you could try putting cardboard tubes in it's cage, they like them a lot!
