Is my hamster dead? :-(?

On Sunday night I checked on my hamster as usual and she was lying there stiff in her cage. I was so sad, but I checked on the internet and found out that hamsters can hibernate, so I left her. It has been about three days now and I haven't seen her move, but she has seemed to have changed position a couple of times, and she doesn't smell at all. I can't see her breathing or her whiskers twitching and she looks very dead, but she does seem to have changed position - I used to be able to see her foot when I looked in her cage but now I can't and she seems to be more curled up. Her food and water however is untouched. She was only about 1 and there was no reason for her to die. I may have forgotten to feed her as her bowl was empty but I don't think that could've killed her and my sister had her out earlier in the day. She was fine and had treats! I will miss her if she is dead, but as I was convinced she was dead to begin with I was already very upset so I think I am prepared.

  1. just pick her up or touch her ,, i dont really think that she is hibernating =)

oh and please let us know if she is alive or not :D

  2. Pick it up. If it moves, its alive

    My hamster died ='(

    R.I.P Cheerio!

  3. ok since shes breathing she is probably definenlty hibernating pick her up in case but make the temperature warmer and see if she wakes up

  4. Heyy

I think your hamster may be dead ;[

If you arnt to scared to pick her up you could use a towel or something. If you are to scared to then ask someone else to do it. Get a soft stick thats not to sharp like the other end of a pencil or flick her on the ear gently. Or blow on her. Your hamster should of come out of hibernation a long time ago!!. If she is alive take her to the vets because she is probly ill.

  5. Pick her/him up its the only way! My hamster died and he was as stiff as a rock and I think he died in is sleep or choked. He was in bedding and his eyes were closed. He wasn't breatheing and I just played with him before he died At first I was calm then cried when I told my mom. If he/she is dead I am very sorry but be happy you both had a good life together! If you can tell a family member you are worried and they will help you. I got another Chinchilla later then Another hamster. my new hamster does not look like my old one but has the same attitube and personality, its like mine never died he is still with me. Anyways Pick em up. hope i helped!

  6. If you're not too grossed out by it, try picking her up and rubbing her with a towel to get her blood moving, that should wake her up if she's hibernating...

hamsters live for only about 2-3 years and those are averages...

    i hope for the best

  7. Just pick her up incase. Hamsters usually hibernate during winter, not summer!

  8. poke it with a stick, I think its dead and possibly rotting....put your hammy by some bugs and if they eat her then shses dead.

  9. pick her up if she is stiff and hard and not breathing she is dead, but if she wakes up then she is alive.....she might have stayed up when u were sleeping and slept when u r awake.... also hamsters keep food in the sides of there cheeks like little pouches but that wouldnt explain the water...i dont kno check on her!! i hope she is ok!! i hope i could help!!
