  1. Take it to the vet and see whats up.

  2. There are a number of ailments that can cause your hamster to have bald patches, or areas of fur loss. Hamsters molt during the summer and autumn, and at this time they may have periods where their coats may become patchy and have areas of fur loss. A low protein diet can also be associated with fur loss; in this case increasing protein in the diet will help. Fur loss can also be age related this can happen in older hamsters, usually around 15-16 months of age and over, occurring around the tummy, hind leg, and hip area first, there is no cure for age related fur loss, and is just a part of the natural ageing process. Certainly does not mean she is going to die, I have old hamsters here that are virtually bald and going strong.

  3. I'm not sure about hamsters but you should talk to your local pet store and ask them about it. The hair loss could be caused by fleas or ticks.

  4. Is she getting old this can happen in old hamsters

  5. if i were you i wouldnt worry, i had a hamster and we took him to the vets as he was loosing hair, the vet asked us whether we had a wheel in his cage, we said yes we did, and the vet said my hamster was loosing hair because he was running on the top of the wheel and rubbing his back on the top of the cage causing his hair to fall out. If you look at the behaviour of your hamster during the night when he is most lively then you should be able to find out if this is the case. Good luck with your hamster, remember if you are worried take him to the vets, the vets always do what is best for your hamster, if you don't want to take him because they say he needs to be put to sleep, then just think he is in pain and he would be much happier without the pain.  Some cases of hair loss are also due to being nervous or depressed, maybe play with him a bit more. Or it could be due to him being allergic to the sawdust or whatever bedding he has.
