I just put my hamster in the ball... it ran around a bit but then when I put it back it hid away. I have just got 2 roborovski hamsters a few days ago and they are timid. Is it the ball that scared it or is it me it is still scared of?

  1. no its probably just tired they are nocturnal and if  you wake them they will hide in their beds and go to sleep most hamsters love their balls but on occasion they will be scared -x-stephany-x-

  2. they are definetly scared of the ball so i would hold off on putting them back in there any time soon.

besides, you just got them. take some time to handle them and play with them before you introduce them to something else.

  3. Probably is scared of the ball, I have yet to meet someone who has owned a pet that loves those run around balls, though I have seen a few that seem content at least.

Solution: once you know how much they eat only place food in cage say twice a day so they can't constantly munch away. A few hours after meal time put some of its favorite food in the ball but don't let it roll round, try jamming something under its edges so you don't have to stand over it and scare it. Let it get comfortable with moving in and out of the ball so its not afraid. Then place some food in it without jamming the edges so it rocks about, but let it move freely in and out. After it seems comfortable you can try him out properly in the ball, only put him/her in for a short period and reward it at the end.

Ensure you place the treat in the ball not after getting out so it associates the treat with being in the ball.

Patience is the key. Rushing will only set you back further, if it's frightened then call it quits for the day.

  4. i think it might just be getting used to you, if it really didnt like the ball then why would it run around so much?

  5. Hey,

I too had a robo hamster and yes it was very timid. The hamsters was very scared of me as to the ball. she wouldn't even let me pick her up so it might be you but dont be ashamed. This type of hamster takes a while to get use to.

    Hope I Helped
