I love my Hamster to bits he's about 9 months old. a few weeks back I asked someone in my house to clean him out that week and they said they did but they didnt but I didnt realise until a week later which meant his cage hadnt been cleaned out for 2 weeks. i straight away cleaned the cage out once I realised but now a month on I've noticed my hamster has wet feet feet and 2 identical patches on his skin that looks like sores but I'm unsure. He seems fine in himself but I'm worried I can't take him to the vet as I honestly can't afford it cause Im totaly broke. I clean him out once a week, change his water bottle every 3 days and feed him food from salads, apples, cereal (weetabix) dried rice, dried pasta and dried noodles. Is my hamster ok or really sick???

  1. Hi

It could be he has been in his own urine, and like any it has ammonia in it, and that could cause the wet feet and sores.

Just clean him every day at the moment, wash his feet in warm water, and dry them well, and also dab the sores with the same, you can put a small touch of Vaseline on them if they look angry, its an old remedy and safe

They will usually clean themselves anyway, but just keep him very dry, until he starts to heal

As long as he is eating he is fine

Next time find a trustworthy person to care for him, as iv had that problem with leaving my pets with someone I thought I could trust

I'm sure if you do that he will be fine

    All the best to you

  2. Are they little dark spots closer to his sides than on top of his back?  If so these are probably his scent glands.  As for the wet feet maybe he walked through his own urine or maybe his water bottle leaked other than that I don't know what could be causing it.

  3. if he is not acting funny, then your ok,  just clean his feet in warm water and take good care of his sores. If he is acting funny, bring him to the vet. you don't want anything happening to your little buddy.
