I am getting a hamster soon and I have a 1 sq. ft. metal barred cage, is this big enough for a golden hamster? Or should I use a fish tank?

  1. That cage is not big enough.  It would be the equivalent of you having to live in a small bathroom.  Hamsters need room to run and play.

  2. get a way bigger one but not and aquarium its hard for them to breathe in aquariums

  3. Fish tanks are not good for hamsters. Then best kind of cage for hamsters are the ones made for hamsters. You can go to pet's parn or wal-mart and get some there. Cages do not need to be huge for just one hamster. For mine I had were around 2.5' x 1', I had two hamsters in there with babies! Just make sure the hamster has room to run in and a wheel! Also it is not good for hamsters to drink water of the floor, so have a water bottle that is off the ground about 3-5 inches up.

  4. i used a smaller sized one, and my hampster is fine and healthy, you should have no problems.

  5. My hamsters cages are all 27"x 14" and I think that's too small

  6. I would get a least ten gallon. You need room for a running wheel, a place for your hamster to sleep, water bottle, Hamster toys, his/her food and space for him/her to walk. you might what to think about your hamster and if this stuff can fit.

  7. no its not big enough get a 15 gallon aquarium.
