Is my hermit crab molting, and what are the signs?

i bought my hermit crab about a few weeks ago and he hasnt eaten a thing, he really needs a new shell but won't change. he buries himself a lot though. also today i went to pick him up and water came out of his shell, he also looks really pail, more then usual, whats wrong with him?

  2. He sounds like he might be getting ready to molt.

    Pre-Molt Symptoms include:

    Digging

    Consuming large amounts of water or soaking in the dish

    Cloudy Eyes

    Ashy looking exo

    Lethargy (very in active)

    Spilling water to dampen the substrate

    Also, since you say you only got him a few weeks ago, he may be destressing.  Just make sure you give him (marine) salt water, fresh water, and food during this time.  I would also advise to leave him alone and watch him awhile.
