  1. DO NOT keep your crab at 65-70 degrees. They MUST be at a temp above 72. Sorry- had to address that first.

Many crabs like to bury under the sand during the day. As mentioned, they're nocturnal creatures. If he/she comes up at night to eat and drink, don't worry about it. If it stays under all the time, it is most likely either molting (in which case you should make sure your other crabs have access to food with lots of calcium because calcium-deficient crabs will sometimes eat molting crabs; eggshells and cuttlebone are great) or if it's a new crab, destressing.  Whatever you do, DON'T dig it up. Just leave your crabby alone. If he's molting he will stay under for a very long time. Average is about a month, bigger crabs can stay under much longer.

And just to be on the safe side, you should check your crabitat to make sure the conditions are right. Humidity should be about 75%, and temp should be OVER 72 DEGREES. Preferably about 75 as well.

    Good luck!

Sorry about all the capitals. :)

  2. When hermit crabs go under the sand it means they're getting closer to their molting time.  Depending on how big your crab is determines how long they stay under.  For very small crabs it's about a week and for large crabs it can be for a month.  What kind of crabs do you have?  If you have purple pinchers then your substrate should be eco earth.  It's a coco fiber based substrate.  Purple pinchers are more forest dwelling crabs. They hang out and live in the forests next to beaches.  By changing from sand to the eco earth it would more closely resemble their natural habitat.

If you only have one or two hermit crabs I'd advise you get more so that you have three at the least.  Hermit crabs live in large groups in the wild and their very social.  If you have two then when one goes under to molt then the other will be left alone, that's why three is best....three at the very least, I can't stress it enough.

  3. its ok to a hermit crab... no big deal

  4. does he have shell options that are bigger and about the same size?  I have learned to take out shells that are too small - they might try to get into them if they are stressed and get stuck and die.  good luck.

  5. yeah he just needs to have some s*x

  6. Hermit crabs are nocturnal, meaning that they sleep during hte day and plays around at night.

As long as you are feeding him and keeping the temperature around 65-70 deg. Farehneit he should be fine.

    Just remember to water him!!

  7. Yes, he's fine. Hermit crabs are nocturnal (which means they're up at night and sleep during the day), so it's perfectly fine that he plays at night and just stays under the sand during the day. =)

  8. he is a crab. what do u want him to do, jump through a ring of fire. crabs make crappy pets, just like fish

  9. Gosh.

    Calm down.

    Your crab is fine.

They are nocturnal. Which means they sleep during the day and play at night.

Just so you know, hermit crabs aren't reptiles, they are crustaceans. Get it right!  =]

I own a bucnh of hermies. They are better in groups than alone.

    Hope this helped.

  10. they're nocturnal.

    dont excpect much from them

  11. dont worry, he is fine!! lol. Hermit Crabs are very active at night because it is different for them- the sand is home to him and very natural for him to be in. Mine did the same thing. If he annoys you at night, put his cage elsewere so you can sleep.

  12. does he have companion crabs? If not getting him friends will make him more active. THey are more active at night but you should see them playing around after supper time.

How are the tank conditions. Is the temp between 70-80f and the humidity between 70%-80% if these are too high or too low it may be why he hides in the sand all day.

Try getting a hiding spot. A cave, coco hut or unpainted flower pot so the crab has a safe place to sleep

  13. he is perfectly fine hermits are nocturnal, so they will go crazy at night and in morning either hide or bury under sand your cage could be to cold though if hes always under sand i'd get him a coconut hut they love them
