Is my home at risk from wild cockroaches?

I pulled up tonight to find a 2 and a half inch cockroach on it's back in my driveway. It scared the p**p out of me. Anyways. There is a vacant lot to our right and a creek behind us. Our house is pretty clean and we have never had cockroaches before. Are we at risk here? What Can I do to defend my castle from these disgusting attackers?

  1. You should be fine. Nothing to worry about. Just keep the garbage clean, and pick up any garbage around your home. Also keep your garage door closed, as much as possible. I had a few come in that way but I caught them right away. Also you can spray the perimeter of your home with an cockroach repellent, but I don't really think you will need it. Best of luck!

  2. Since there is only one, and this is your first time...plus your home is clean, don't worry-- you're pretty safe. : ) But as the person above me said before spray the place around your home with bug repellent.
