my miniature horse was a rescue the people say that he was a gelding but now we aren't so sure.He sticks his (little boy part out), he mounts mares and he grunts. How do we make sure he isn't a stallion?

  1. I once heard of a horse at the stables where I board my horse at did stuff just like that and they thought he was gelded. The owner found out he was either partly gelded or wasn't gelded the right way! Isn't that crazy!?! Sounds like you might have the same situation. I would call any local vet/your vet and tell them the whole situation. Get him looked at as soon as you can.

However, it could just be because he is new to these mares.

    GOOD LUCK MY DEAR :D

  2. You are going to need to have him examined by a vet.  Even if he doesn't have obvious testicles, there is no guarantee he isn't a cryptorchid or ridgling.  Occasionally a gelding operation doesn't go perfectly, a little bit of testes was left behind and you will see studdish behavior in a gelding as well.

  3. Simple check to see if he has testicles. they will be hanging down if he does. if he doesn't he is a gelding.
