  1. No way!

There's a gelding currently in the Olympics who (since I last heard) is coming second in eventing and he's 15!

  2. Get him checked by a vet and really make sure. You don't want anything bad to happen. But he is only 10 going on 11, so i think he should be fine. A horse at my stable is 20 and he still Hunts and jumps. Start working up to eventing and see if he is energetic or not willing.

  3. No, thats just about the age when horses really start to come into themselves. My TB is 9 and we have yet to do an event. He's just been way too immature before. Most of the horses competing at the olympics this year are between the ages of 11 and 13.  The youngest one was 8. The trainer at the barn I work at just bought an older event horse. I think he's like 16 or something and this is a horse the trainer is gearing for WEG and Rolex next year. So 11 is definitely not too old to start eventing.

  4. You can start at any age if he is fit and is the sort of thing the horse does well.

  5. Heck, no not too old at all.

  6. Be very careful. He may get arthrites if you work him up. Go easy on him and if he shows signs of pain stop immediantly

  7. When a horse is 10-years-old he is just getting into his prime! He is not too old.

  8. Lol, 10 Years Old is still young, that's pretty much within their prime years.

  9. no!! as long as he is in shape and you build up the intensity of events... horses can start as late as 18 or 19 but probably shouldn't event past 20ish depending on the horse. Also ponies or pony crosses are extra hardy so you have a good 7+ years of eventing ahead of you with this horse.

  10. h**l No!

I had recently bought an old rescue mare she's 19 and I started eventing her she's now 21 and doing great! =]

  11. no way! my gelding is 12 and i just started getting him fit for eventing! 11 definetly isnt old, he's in his prime!  theres a 16year old gelding in the olympics doing eventing! and he used to just be a pack horse!

  12. Not at all! Those are a horse's glory years, when they are grown up and mellowed out but not old. "Old" for a horse is some time in the twenties usually, depending on the horse... Hope this helps! :)

  13. NO WAY! my friend is starting eventing with her 15 year old! just be sure to give joint supplements even if he doesn't have problems. It will prevent them.

  14. Heck no! Horses are near enough their prime when they are 10. Go for it and happy eventing!!
