Question:

Is my house air filter supposed to dip in the middle?

I have the grill on the wall, where my a/c filter is behind it. If I open up the grill it looks like the filter is being sucked on and it's gone from the rectangle shape to a U shape (but it is still in the right place)

And if you try to remove it while the a/c is going, it feels like its being sucked tight against the hole. The a/c running doesn't sound as loud to me if the filter is gone from that hole.

  1. I bought cheap filters before and that happened to me.  3M makes good filters - that's all I buy now!

  2. I've seen this before, yes it does happen, it is obviously a poor design, if it is a metal framed filter pop rivet a metal strip down the centre but make sure the strip has a crease in it to strengthen it or it will just bend, or you could get someone to make up a filter for you, there are people around that do that. if you use a metal strip make sure you flatten just the ends so it fits under the edge of the frame or you wont get it under.

  3. how often do you change the filters, they sound old and changing shape because they need changing at least every couple months.

  4. Is the filter dirty(change it) is it put in correctly(should have an arrow showing which way air is supposed to flow (metal toward fan)

  5. Nothing wrong with that ,it wont go any where,as long as its still snug around the edges.its just like a fishing pole springy effect
