  1. Yes I think he would, however Canada is lovely do not leave!!

  2. Yeah he is entitled to it.

  3. No he has to have been born in Britain, why cant he get a Canadian passport.?

  4. Nope...he first needs to get 'Indefinate leave to remain' in the UK. Then apply to the Home office to naturalise as a British Citizen...all of which can take a 3 to 5 years and cost a quite a bit too. xx

  5. Before he can apply for a UK passport he would have to be a naturalized UK citizen. He may gain right of abode in the UK through marriage and could then apply for naturalization.

  6. well i hope he does as the canadians are a nice people good luck

  7. The question is: where do you live?

If you live in the UK, and if your husband has held legal residence (Right of Abode) for 3 years, then he can apply for British citizenship. That you two are married is not really important in this case.

On the other hand I don't believe British citizenship can be acquired through marriage if you don't reside in the UK.

Also note that before you can apply for a passport, you must apply for -- and be granted -- citizenship.

  8. most canadians can apply cos they tend to have links here, however far back, great grandmothers etc,you can get a British ancestry visa, and thn a british passport.  and yes you can apply if you are married, im not sure how long you have to be married though, and you have to prove its a real marriage, that you live together etc....its a pain! im not sure how it works with canada, but normally you need leave to remain in the uk, thn apply for citizenship. but i have a feeling that canada may work a bit different as its technically under our queen.

  9. You should be OK if you are married, although you may have to undergo several interviews etc to prove your marriage is genuine.

Canada is a member of the Commonwealth so this should make it easier for him to obtain a British passport.

    Good luck!

  10. He has to obtain a ILR visa as your spouse at the British High Commission near you. Once he has this, he may come to the uk. 28 days before it expires,he must apply for permanent Visa. Then after another year he applies for citizenship after writing a test on Britishness. See the Border and Immigration Agency website or visit immigration advisory service website.
