i have to do a paper on something that merits observation. i chose bus drivers during motor accidents. my ideas for a hypothesis are these:

1) can observing how motrists react to accidents help us understand how people behave in threatening situations

2) can observing motorists reactions to threatening situations help us understand how society has influenced people on how to behave....

ughhh i cant think... im not sure if these questions are right for my soc paper. can you help tweak my hypothesis and lead in in the right direction? im new to this. thanks... my problem is that im not sure if i am veering into psycology

  1. Involving a social relation concept puts your study more into the sociology bracket, e.g. is there authority conflicts in motor vehicle accidents when bus drivers are involved. For that you need to look emergency contingency policy, procedures and/or protocol.

Psychology and sociology are really the same thing, but the word 'sociology' brings human relations concept to mind. A study with no personal beliefs is impossible. You need to adopt a theoretical framework to structure your observations and the purpose or need for your study, i.e. who put in an order for it and why.

  2. I would do a combination of the two you have. Soemthing like....Observing motorist's reactions in threatening situations can help us to understand how society has influenced people's behavior. You are on the right track though.

  3. maybe something to do with what has influenced bus drivers to react the way they do during motor accidents?

how has society shaped the way people behave in threatening situations?

Is the way people react a result of social conditioning?

    I don't know, hope I helped, maybe a little?
