Is my kitten sore or injured?

I found some smeared blood on the floor and went to investigate my dog and my 7 week old kitten. I could not find anything wrong with my dog and only found some dried blood under my kittens nose.

My kitten slept all morning long and even urinated in the place he was sleeping. But he was eating and drinking but he kept sitting, walking, sitting, walking.

I took him into the vet and explained that I had a dog and found the blood and so on. The fiv test was negative, fecal was negative, but he had a temperature of 105 and his white blood count was high which indicated a bad cold. So he gave me some antibiotics. I asked the dr, "what does blood by his nose have to do with a cold." He acted like he didnt know about the dog or blood situation and just said, "oh its just a bad cold"

With his meds, he is still not acting right. He is eating and drinking. I saw him have a normal stool yesterday but he walks really low to the ground and slow like hes stalking. When you pick him up he shakes. Most of the time he just sits there and does not move.

Could my dog of played with him too rough and squished him and caused bad bruising. Or could he have some internal damage?

The high temperature and high blood count makes me wonder how that could be from rough dog play.....

  1. Is there actually anything wrong with your kitten? It's unclear.

Is it possible your kitten just had a nose bleed?

  2. I would take your kitten to another vet for a 2nd opinion immediately. Something here does not sound right. A cold and/or rough play? No... 2nd opinion. Good luck.

  3. ask the vet about heart murmurs

  4. Kittens don't just get nosebleeds. I have a feeling that you are correct, the dog may have picked the kitten up and shook it. That would explain the blood. It is also possible that if there was some brain damage from the shaking, that could explain the elevated temperature. The elevated white count, not so much. If the brain was damaged from shaking, it is possible that the part of the brain that controls temperature regulation was affected. I would suggest another vet. The symptoms you describe suggest to me an injured cat. He may also have a back injury. I think x-rays would be in order. Thoracic and Abdominal, including the spine.
