It's Favela, I looked it up in some Ancestry.com place and it said it was. I've lived there and I didn't see alot of Favela's. Also .. My grandparents are from there. Is my last name Portuguese?

  1. It sounds more Italian.

  2. It could be.

Spanish: of uncertain origin; possibly from a Visigothic personal name Fafila, or alternatively from a derivative of faba, a regional form of haba ‘broad bean’. Possibly in some instances, it could be based on Portuguese and Galician fabela ‘small plot’.

Southern Portuguese (also Brazilian): topographic name from favela ‘slum’.

Early immigrants were from Mexico, Italy and the Philippines.

  3. Either Span or Portuguese...

I knew a few Favelas in Spain when I lived there.. It could be just an alternate spelling/pronunciation (sometimes a regional dialect) of PAVELA which is a common Spanish surname
