Is my last name italian?

My last name is '' Paternina'' '' And well its soppoused to be paternini'' but they changed it to the Nina

i live in the us. and well my dads ansestors are from italy , so is my last name italian ?

  14. If your fathers ancestors are Italian it would seem logical that the family name is of Italian origin. Regardless of wher you life, family names, unless they have been altered in spelling, accidently by immigration officials or by court order, will reflect the country of origin.

  15. As long as your dad's ancestors are from Italy.. you would have Italian heritage, even if your last name was Smith.

    The origin of a person is what matters.  Names are just a label for convenience.
