Is my letter to the school board about evolution good?

Dear School Board,

Please consider the following letter:

I am writing to you about a major problem I have with our school district presenting the existence of the hieroglyphic alphabet as a fact to our students. I am concerned that unchecked belief in this language is being used to prove the existence of an ancient intelligent source when it can be demonstrated that natural random chance could have created these markings.

When humans see hieroglyphics cut into sandstone we are supposed to see clear patterns that convey readable information. We are to assume that thousands of years ago someone with a mind and intelligence cut the stone in order to share or dictate information. We are to believe that because we have a mind and intelligence that we are able to decipher this alphabet and decode its language. Why do we believe this? There are no eye witnesses to prove that intelligence created hieroglyphics and it is possible for completely random and natural causes to erode the sandstone leaving behind what appears to be information. Since there is no way to prove beyond a doubt that it was not random erosion why would anyone believe this so called ancient alphabet to be the product of an intelligent being?

Take DNA for example. Scientists believe that our DNA is a set of clear patterns that convey readable information. They say they can read this DNA just like they say we can read these markings called hieroglyphics. The same principles that apply to reading hieroglyphics must also apply to reading DNA. In order for humans to read DNA we must believe it came from an intelligent source and that we have a mind that is capable of deciphering this DNA code. Just like there is no way to prove beyond a doubt that an intelligent being carved hieroglyphics there is no way to prove that an intelligent being created the information seen in DNA. I believe that humans are the product of evolution developed completely by random and natural causes. The same way the hieroglyphic alphabet was created. Just because random chance looks like a clear pattern that conveys readable information doesn’t mean we should attribute it to an intelligent source. However if DNA truly carries readable information it must come from an intelligent source. If it comes from an intelligent source A.K.A. God that means we are not natural beings that are here by a wonderful cosmic accident that started the spontaneous generation of life which over millions and millions and millions of years of non directed completely natural evolution produced us non special animals called humans. I believe it is unfair to trick our students into believing in God and I think the teaching of the ancient hieroglyphic alphabet should be removed from our schools because it promotes the concepts behind the intelligent design movement. At the very least the students should be exposed to the likely possibility that the hieroglyphic alphabet is the result of a completely natural and random occurrence. I think they should explore my theory which states that wind picking up bits of sand over the course of millions upon millions of years could have by chance carved the hieroglyphic alphabet. Let me know if you need me to come in and teach a class on this.

Now if this seems to be an outrageous claim, I would agree with you. However our school district has no problem presenting the “theory” of evolution as fact to our students when there is considerable doubt to its validity. I would like to see our district embrace the true practice of scientific investigation by putting Mr. Darwin’s theory to the test.

Sincerely,

Dan Krueger

  1. If you can support another theory, they will teach it.  As it stands now, the only theory for the hieroglyphics is that they were carved by men.  If you can come up with another theory, then it will be taught in school.  It is just like evolution.  There is currently no other theory, so evolution is taught in science class.  That is how schools work.  They teach the theories, and sometimes touch on the other hypotheses, but rarely.

  2. Heh, heh. This is pretty good.  The only flaw, obviously, is that there is much evidence to suggest that hieroglyphics were produced by men, just as there is much evidence that life evolves.  You may "believe" that hieroglyphics occurred naturally, but without supporting scientific evidence, I don't think you will get very far with this argument.  It's cute, though.  ;0

  3. This is ridiculous... if you don't like the idea of evolution then either home school your kid, or put them in a religious school. Just because your ignorant about the FACTS, doesn't mean every one should be.

  4. Some hieroglyphics are not cut into sandstone, but rather painted.

    *chuckles*

btw, this is a false analogy.

My overall opinion of your letter is that it was very creative regardless. ^_^

  5. WHAT IN THE h**l.....EGYPTIONS MADE THEM!!! They are a LANGUAGE you brain less pig!

Oh and by the way english doesnt exist either....lets deny that to why where at it. Go back in your cave!!!

  6. The Roseta stone is nearly absolute proof that hieroglyphs were created by ancient Egyptians.  That cultural history is known to us and the Egyptians were known to them.

You lack basic knowledge about evolution or you just ignore obvious facts.  The evidence is not an opinion.  There are billions of years of recorded fossil record that shows a progression of life forms.  That is, by definition, evolution.  There has never been an even slightly rational alternative to Natural Selection.  All animals are related and that is backed up by the genetic data (unambiguously), morphological studies, embryology studies, fossil record and the observed changes in species over time shaped by humans or other causes.  Just because you believe something with passion doesn't change reality.

  7. LOL...  If you are under 18, this is GREAT!!!  Some minor spelling and grammar problems, but overall it was really funny....

I agree with my comrads... its a false analogy because we know hieroglyphic are man-made just by reading them... they are depicting things that happen to people...  Where as, although we analogize DNA to words, our genes aren't trying to tell a story or explain a concept...they are functions of chemestry....

But your piece of writing is great!  Like I said, very funny...

You should send it to a church or something... I'm sure they would publish it for you... it would be very convincing if you had no working concept of evolution or genetics....
