She is two and a half and she can do any 35 piece jigsaw puzzle on her own, im not sure if this is normal or if she is just really clever. Also what mental skills does it take to do a jigsaw, thanks

  1. shes definitely clever! she has awesome logistic and coordination skills. encourage this skill by presenting her with new challenges and may be at the same time helping her learn other things like recognizing letters ad colors this will defiantly help when she enters pre-school or kinder.

  2. very clever-they say  jigsaws are for the mathematically  minded.

I would concentrate on mathematical toys and games, but the mistake a lot of parents make is to concentrate on the things their child is naturally good at and improve it and then let the other slip.

Is her language good?  Make sure you read a lot to her and encourage her speech too.

  3. That's great.  Pretty impressive!

  4. she's clever...she has logical skills, and good eyes!

  5. My kid was doing 100 piece puzzles at two.  your kid is way behind.

  6. i startd doin puzzles when i was little but i dont know how little

  7. Your daughter has shown some signs of being ahead of her age group. she shows good spatial awareness and the persistence to complete a task. To be a genius, she would need to show advancement in language, interest in a particular field, like dinosaurs or space or something else. many children show advanced skills at one point and then even off after a year or so. Keep her interested in a variety of tasks, art, music, books etc. If she is not already in a school or playgroup, she may enjoy spending a few hours with children her own age or a little older

  8. yes shesmart but maybe she just smart at visual things try testing her on onther things than pictures and things to see if sge rellys is a genius

  9. She's a genius, WoW, make her do other stuff, she probably didnt get it from you tho so dont get too excited

  10. it really depends, I was able to use a computer by the age of 3, like downloading that kinda of stuff and all. but there is no way I am smart. I do have a knack at fixing computers sotra. Though there is a sign that she maybe good a solving puzzles in math. My sister started talking a little earlier than 9 months, and now she can't shut up. It all depends how she grows and uses this skill to and applies this knowledge. But that is a pretty smart, you never know.

  11. My little girl loves doing jigsaws when she was 2 she was doing 100 piece jigsaws now shes nearly 5 she sits and does 1000 piece jigsaws with me! so no i dont really think your little girl is a genius but i dont think mine is either. get over yourself!

  12. i am guesing that she only did this once, give her a bigger jigsaw and then see.

  13. i dunno if she is or not but i started walking at 4 months old, putting my passifier in my mouth at 2 weeks old and was saying im hungry and i want food by a month old and skipped 2 grades. so i dunno i guess you will have to see when she starts school

  14. not really my friends child could spell and write at the age of three, dont get me wrong it wasnt joined up or anything but she knew her alphabet for at least 6 months before the spelling and writing began and she can spell pretty much anything now she's 4 if you say  the word properly to her she can spell it no matter how long it is.

Am afraid this doesn't make her a genius but just like your child it makes her very bright and a quick learner.

Sounds like your child has a photographic memory

  15. i think it depends on the jigsaw puzzle picture, because it can be easy, but WOW, your daughter is a genius. But mental skills to do a jigsaw is memorizing or concentration. but really, your little girl is a genius.

  16. :-)  I'll have to agree with Bittersweet22 :-)  My son is definately not a genious but he's 2.5 yrs and puts together 63 piece jigsaw puzzles...he also has a great internal sense of rhythm and other musical components.  It's just that 1) he's been exposed and allowed to advance and 2) he is going to be more mathematical.  Music and math (puzzles included) tend to go hand in hand as they use the same side of the brain.

Good job in allowing her to try on those jigsaw puzzles.  I know families with 3 year olds that haven't even gotten out the 12/24 piece jigsaws and still use the peg puzzles...which are great for fine motor and language development but do not do much with the logical thinking :-)

  17. Jigsaws take the following skills:

-physical: the small skills to actually place the pieces.

-mathematical awareness: shape and spacial awareness, orientation etc.

    -concerntration and persistance

-early literacy (looking and using the picture to create jigsaw)

However when you say 'jigsaw' do you mean like the adult ones where you follow a picture from box or the ones where they are pegged and there are shaped holes/areas you fit the pieces into? Because the skill for each is different.

I would say she is a little more advanced mentally than 2 and a half but Im sorry i wouldnt say genius...but she certainly sounds lovely and you should keep her stimulated to ensure she doesnt get bored or develop social issues.
