Question:

Is my mind in poetic overdrive?

I read C. S. Scotkins question, and this ran through my mind, so I wrote it. Have fun with it.

Solar Sails

We like to visit on the Earth,

Green trees are quite a change.

On Mars it's all just dust and rock,

The cows can't graze our range.

If we tell tales of feats so great,

But left out all the bad,

It's all because we don't want you,

To think that we're all bad.

We squandered all the land we had,

The green all went away,

The air got thin and stayed like that,

Until this very day.

We built our cities in the ground,

From pure necessity,

And with your lenses so well made,

Our culture you can't see.

We wait for those who wish to come,

And build their crystal domes.

We'll share with them that which we've learned,

And help them make their homes.

So when we visit, treat us well,

And listen to our tales.

We'll teach you how to get to Mars,

In ships with solar sails.

  1. "Hi!",

I have been waiting for your post for days. I can't believe I nealy missed your post.

Lucky I took the last flight from earth to mars, to get the news update that martions came to earth to tell their folklore, otherwise I would have been disapointed.

    WELL DONE!

    As always enjoyed it.

    Cheers : )

  2. How about?

If we tell tales of feats so great,

But left out all that's bad,

It's just because we don't want you,

To think that we're all mad.

  3. Wouldnt it be fun if we could be there?

    Thanks Dondi.

  4. A fine ballad, not at all in overdrive. It takes strong lenses to see through the debris to the real Martians. Like everything worthwhile, it takes work, but it has its rewards.

  5. Well done, and if its true it kind of weirds me out.

  6. I pray that this stays fantasy

As we try to self destruct.

Kudos Dondi, you are always well spoken.

  7. When all of Earth comes crashing down,

they will look to the stars,

and see our happy poets home

    upon the planet Mars.

  8. Solar sails - shining in the darkened space. Visions of the Flying Dutchman upon his journeys - in his new space equipped galleon. Destination - no dome city - for they would run the risk of meteor strikes - once the atmosphere was weak enough to allow them through. Underground caverns - where a living room wall - was a study in alien anthropology. Oh, the prophetic fantasies the mind can weave. Well done ♥

  9. I like this a lot!

Is this what is slowly happening to Earth?

I especially love 'ships with solar sails.' Awesome!

  10. Wonderful!!!!The Little green Man thinks so, too.

  11. I liked this poem but something doesn't seem right about the second stanza. It maybe that you rhymed bad with itself... not sure...

I like something like this better:

It's  because all of us want you

to know that we are all glad

I'm not suggesting you change it; I'm only expressing an opinion of what works for me...

    I still liked it... Bob

  12. No over drive. Just awesome.
