  1. No, she is not safe from fraud.  You need to monitor her credit as well  And while, yes, as a minor, it should be easy to take care of most credit disputes, if he has used her info on utilities it may be different.

I had a friend who's parents had used her info on their electric and phone bills.  THey racked up a lot of debt and never paid it.  When she went to dispute it with the companies AND credit unions, they wouldnt take it off because she benefited from the utility (she lived there), and it is completly legal to do that.  So, watch out if thats whats going on.

  2. Even if there was a fraudulent account created for your child you should easily get it removed since it's obviously fraud since children can't get contracts.  You might want to do credit monitoring for your child.

  3. its possible but the chances are low like 1 out of a million

  4. Unfortunately parents often steal their children's SSN and ruin their credit.

  5. Not safe....happens often.  Creditors/credit bureaus can't tell age from SS #'s..they have to verify age from other means.

Actually, relatives, friends & neighbors make up 50% of all identity theives. (according to a BBB 2005 survey)

  6. legally you can't enter into any sort of contract (credit or otherwise) with a minor.  Since she wouldn't have any credit history, it's really unlikely that he could forge anything to get credit through her.  Store credit, credit cards, loans etc would be refused.  I'm not sure what personal information would be accessible to the person running the credit check but I think the easiest way to find out is to ask at your own bank whether it's possible and whether the can do a credit check on your daughter.  Or you could use one of the free credit checking websites maybe too.
