Question:

Is my mom a "bad" mom?

She NEVER talks to us any more. Only yells. And our house now has the "reputation" of the unsupervised house, because she's almost never home. She works three days a week (understandable, of course), but the rest of the time she's at her friends or her boyfriends house. Most of the time she doesn't bring her phone because she doesn't want to be disturbed by kids.

Like right now, she said she was going to drop off some money at her friends house (her friend babysits for us sometimes), and now she's been gone for over two hours.

I'm sorry if I sound like a bratty kid, I'm just wondering if this is an actual problem or if most moms do this.

  1. Its not normal, can you talk to your Dad or Grandparents? Someone needs to confront her, not you though. Good Luck!

  2. I wish my mom would spend that much time away from the house.

All my mom does is yell only because she doesn't have control over my thoughts and feelings and she feels powerless because of it.

    Its pretty screwed up.

  3. That is odd behavior.  You don't sound like a bratty kid.  You actually sound mature and concerned, almost more like the adult.  I'd talk to another adult, or the lady that babysits you.  If she's aware that you're concerned, she may mention something to your mother or step up and sorta fill in where your mom lacks.  Good Luck.

  4. Short answer: yes.

Long answer: My mom used to yell a lot...  too much, but we did at least have good moments.  Your mother should not be at a point where she only yells at you.  This is unhealthy for you and your mother psychologically... especially you since you have no escape.  Not bringing your phone so you don't have to be disturbed by your kids is also a bad thing.  Besides the fact that she should be involved in your life, what if there's an emergency?  You're not sounding like a bratty kid.  You sound like a kid who realizes that his or her mother isn't perfect and has some issues.

  5. Sounds like it is a problem. not only because she yells and is not home, but because you described it as unsupervised. When she works it is understandable.but most mothers want to spend time with there children, have chores to do,cooking cleaning, going to the supermarket and yard work. You said she has a boyfriend, so that must mean he doesn't live at your home. She feels it is her chance to be with him and have some alone time with him. But mothers should spend quality time at home with the kids, doing something they like,, renting a movie to watch, maybe having sleep overs for girls or going out for pizza with everyone as a family.Ask her to do something different, have a plan for all of you to do something one night a week.maybe she won't mind. I know I wouldn't.

  6. You are not a bratty kid, your mother is a bad mother.  She is living a life of a woman who doesn't have children.  Just because her children are older does not mean they are old enough to mother themselves.  Your mother sounds selfish and self absorbed, and I feel very bad for you.  You will suffer for her neglect.  If I was your neighbour I would phone child services.

  7. Kind of....if it gets worse or physical seek help from children's services become a foster kid! Yay for foster kids!

  8. Oh no. You don't sound bratty. If you tell it like it is then your mom needs to shape up. I mean it a lot depends on how you kids act when it comes to how bad she is but regardless she has problems when it comes to parenting. The best way to become a good person with bad parents is to learn from friends and roll models . You gotta talk to her but if she refuses to change then you gotta find good people like your fave teachers or friends that have things really together.

  9. hah

dude if i was you id be partying

  10. Yeah...my mom dropped me off places and forgot about me sometimes, but she would usually own up to it. Just hope that no one reports your mom to DFS or you could end up in Foster care like one of my best friends did. Foster care is usually only a little better that abusive parents.

  11. most moms dont do this, but hey, shes only human and obviously needs a break from her kids, and would like nothing else than to be in the arms of her bf relaxing, or having fun with friends. I would say shes being pretty neglectful if you kids happened to be respectful angels towards her, but honestly, most kids arent, no offense. even i wasnt perfect (drove my parents nuts). is there something that youre doing to make her fed up with home life? because trust me, if i had to deal with some rude immature argumentative kids (not saying that you are), i would much rather be somewhere else ignoring the responsibilities of having to take care of bratty children. again, you may not be those kids. all im saying, is ask yourself if youre doing something wrong to make her life harder that it should be, and if you are, make it right.

  12. Most moms definitely are not like that. Id talk to someone like a grandparent or dad or someone.

  13. Play the guilt trick on her or at least try it. After she leaves for a long time one day. Make a sad face and ask her if she really loves you because shes never around any more. This will either make her feel guilty and spend more time with you or make her uncomfortable and shell probably leave for a while. If she does the latter then i would let maybe a teacher or counseler know about this problem.

  14. compared to my mom she is not like any mom there is you should try talking to her or something if you have a dad bro sis have a family meeting with them when your mom is gone try it it might work or she might leave you no one knows what will happen? just try it!

  15. It sounds like she has a Peter Pan complex.

She probably has more responsibility than she wanted, so she decided to shirk it all and do what teenagers do. That is, hang out with their friends and not have to do what their parents (or in her case, children) want her to do.
