I recently bought a Schwinn S-60 DSX mountain bike for 280 bucks. I know there are a lot better off road bikes that come with a steep price but want to get my experience level up before I purchase a more expensive bike because I know it will get trashed. I want to know is this bike really strong enough to handle rugged ground? I have experience with jumps but on smaller bmx style bikes and plan to go all out with this one. Im a bit nervous because its been a few years since my bmx days and I never moved up to mountain bikes before I stopped. Any good info I should know will help.

Recommendations on my next bike? I want a light, strong mountain bike. So all the bikers out there help me out please

  1. It may it may not, only one way to tell ;) I was in your situation with an entry bike and ended up breaking a lot of stuff on it so I upgraded to a higher end full suspension bike. I would ride it how YOU want to until it falls apart, in which you will be forced to buy yourself a nice new ride. =]

Buying used bikes can get you good deals but no warranty. Buying from a bike shop may be more expensive but you get a warranty and they usually offer some free tune-ups as well.

  2. My recommendation is E-Bay.  Their are a lot of great bikes out there looking for a home.  A friend of mine picked up a Klein for under $400 and I got a Cannondale Super V for around $350.  The Klein he got was in great shape, but he still dumped another $400 into it just to have new parts.  I put about $150 into the Cannondale I bought but it is really a show bike or conversation piece.  I am to old for the off road stuff so I got a hybrid from performance bike and started to obey the laws.  Used is the way to go for a mountain bike just be careful don't spend to much,  study what the bikes you like go for, don't pay to much.  You may also want to check Craig's List.  Good Luck.

  3. It will take a beating on rough trails. While catching a little air is OK, I wouldn't try serious jumping with it, it won't handle that kind of abuse.

  4. That Schwinn S-60 DSX is no serious rider's dream, but it is good. Do a lot of your learning (or relearning) on this bike for now. After you've put this bike "through h**l", your skills should be much better. What kind of bike after that is open to question since there are lots of "better" ones.

  5. i love giants, fuji and rocky mountains. they are well built and give a lot for the price
