Is my nose piercing infected?

Ive had my nose pierced about five weeks ago and last tuesday i got it changed from a stud to a hoop. the stud was (i think) an 18 o 20 g and the hoop was like a 16 g. it took a while for the guy to get it in (i was scared to do it myself so i went to ink wizard) and it hurt pretty bad. now, there is a little bump formed around the hole. it only hurts when i touch it (ill admit i do mess with it sometimes) and theres lymph coming out if it. I'm trying not to make it gross lol but sometimes stuff does come out of it and its usually a yellow color but every once in a while, its yellowish green. i clean in with h2ocean (the spray kind) like 6 times a day. its gotten a lot better since thursday and friday. is there anything i should do?

  1. Yes it sounds infected, especially if its oozing yel/greenish discharge. Immediately go back to the piercer and have them change the jewelry back to its proper size and also make sure its a stud thats made of good quality metal. If your piercing is either a 18 or 20 gauge, a 16 gauge was a little to big and is what possibly cause the infection especially since you only had it pierced for 5 weeks. I suggest you don't remove or change out the piercering until its completely healed, which can take btw 3-6 months. As for the bump after you get the other jewelry placed back in soak the area w/ warm sea salt soaks 3 times a day and dab a small drop of tea tree oil on the bump atleast 2 times a day every other day, the bump in time will gradually disappear, just give it time.Good Luck

  2. sounds like it yes, put expected really.

    stop the messing!!

and stop cleaning it 6 times a day!!! good god lol

Use your own solution of weak, warm salt water to clean it, will work much better than the stuff you have...promise! and clean it 2-3 times daily, cleaning too often can to more harm than good!!

seriously stop playing with it, and no more changes!! for a while.

    good luck

  3. The yellowy greeny pus is a sign of infection. You need to get that cleared up. Go to your doctors, they should give you some anti biotics to help clear the infection up.

Also you need to stop messing with it! When you do that you pass any bacteria thats on your hands into the piercing- which is deffinately not good! =s This could be a cause for infection you know, so really you should refrain from messing with it- even occasionally.

To me the lymph sounds fine, lymph is normal, its good, a sign of a healing piercing...but the yellowly greeny pus is not good, it is, as i already mentioned a sign of infection.

The bump could be a keloid, or it could be one of those annoying piercing bumps. In any case if you soak your whole nose in a cup of warm sea salt water you should drain any gunk from the piercing and hopefully reduce the bump. You could also buy emu oil for the bump, as has been recommended to me by a piecer.

I think you should do hot compresses and soak you nose in the warm sea salt water- this really should drain the bad stuff out.

Other than that theres not much more you can do. Deff go to the doctors though, as infections shouldnt be taken lightly.

Good luck and i hope your piercing becomes as wonderful as you want it to be =D

  4. It sounds like it might be infected, or at least pretty badly irritated. I would just say keep babying the h**l out of it, and stop touching it! Don't spin the hoop or touch the bump. The oil from your fingers is probably whats keeping it from healing.
