using:

PS3 hooked up to samsung LCD 720p/1080i.

Using monster cable 300 hdmi cables.

every now and then I put a blu-ray movie in and I can see this white dots appear "sparkling?" Most of the time they are not there. They are very appearant while watching the movie "Chicago" in the dark screens or the smoke filled scenses?

Is this what it is suppose to look like or am i suffering from "sparkling" and if so what do I do to fix it? Do I need to spend more money on HDMI cables?

Any help is appreciated.

  1. it sounds like the settings on your tv are out of whack. try turning the contrast, brightness, and color levels down a tad using one of your existing dvds (like star wars or whatever) that has a thx test pattern. this problem  is usually caused by an exaggerated white level. also experiment with the ps3 settings including hdmi inner settings (paraphrased: hdmi limited or full, color or level, etc). this will solve your problem.

  2. The dots on your screen are called artifacts, in computers they appear when the video card is overheating. If your PS3 is stuck in an entertainment center put it in a spot where it can breathe.
