  1. First of all to be on the safe side, next time you see your doctor talk to him or her about this.

I have a friend who is on Antidepressant type medication and from his experience there are times that some medications don't "do it for you."

For example, my friend was on Zoloft and it after a few weeks of being on it, his symptoms were the same/getting worse. So, the doctor upped his dosage - that did not work as well. So finally they changed him to Effexor and that did it for him.

I'm not recommending any of these medications to you personally, as his situation could be totally different from yours. I don't think you're taking a placebo as that's a rough thing to do to someone if they're suffering from depression and/or anxiety.

So, bottom line is: try different medications and dosages (with Dr.'s supervision, obviously) until one works for you.

As you're pretty young I would hope that you not stay on these type of medications for a long time - being drug-free is the best option - but I know that sometimes that's not possible because of your symptoms - talk to your doctor and see was he/she is recommending. Some doctors love to push pills like they're going out of style - If you think that's your case, seek a second opinion.

Do a search online to see if there are other alternative treatments that might help you cope with your anxiety - as an alternative or as part of a balanced regimen in addition to meds.

    Good luck to you!

  2. It is not likely to be a placebo. Prozac and other similar medications work for some people, but have either none or negative effects for others.

I tried 3 different ones before finding something that worked for me and they were all popular drugs that other people swear by.
