YES ITS SLATE.. ONE PIECE.. Bar Size Table 7 ft. It looks like the trail left from a saw blade cutting all the way through..i would say the ridge are about 1/16 inch apart and perfect spaced all the way and curved over the face of the slate

  1. Noooooo way. It should be smooooooth and flat. The ball should roll straight as a arrow when no spin is applied. Are you sure it's slate? Some cheaper ones used plywood. Also, real slate may be solid or in two pieces. Solid ones are best but 2 piece slates are easier to move/install.  If it's an expensive table...fix it. Good luck and enjoy your table! By the way, I love pool.

  2. yeah slate isnts clean cut like tile

  3. Yes one piece slate does have ridges left from end mill cutters.

They should be faint to the eye and touch.Once the table is covered you won't notice it at all.The left over chalk that penetrates through the cloth fills these ridges. That is why you notice your table playing better a feew weeks after recovering.

  4. If your table is a one piece slate, then I can't imagine why there would be ridges.  Pool table slate should be perfectly smooth.  You should have a professional come over and inspect it.  A bar table shouldn't be too expensive to have reclothed.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.
