(BTW he's 11)

The Magic Box

I will put in the box

The gold and silver of Planet Jupiter

The cry of the last dodo

The golden playground on a summers day

I will put in my box

Time that never advances

A rupee from golden caves

The blazing fire of a volcanic dragon

I will put in my box

The last survivor of ancient Pompeii

The golden smile of a best friends help

The dark gloom of the silent workroom

My box is fashioned from ice and fire

Shadow and forest, with a water centre

The lid is covered with the sparkling stars of a midnight sky

I will surf in my box

To the lost forest of the emerald trees

To a temple of jade and ruby

And a lake of shining sapphire

I'm such a proud mummy today :-)

  1. I liked it, how old is your son?

  2. Found your son's masterpiece interesting, not sure if I would class it as a poem, but it definitely is a good piece of Imaginative writing. Do continue to encourage your son to write He has a talent which needs to be drawn out onto paper or even computer. Tell him, "Well Done". Don't know that poetry is out of fashion, I think it depends on whose reading it, writing it, and receiving it. Good luck, get it published

  3. :)

  4. uh ur son needs help lol im 16 and i dont even know half those words

  5. hi ms m,

i loved the poem, i often think about what i could put in my box, but it isnt advisable for me to put it on here, i wouldnt want to get suspended now would i? x*x ciao for now darling!

  6. Yes you should be proud.  I don't generally like poems but this one is certainly different.  Your son did an amazing job and should be encouraged to continue.  Send this poem to a contest and get it published.

  7. It´s quite evident that you think that he is a genius and that should be enough. Poetry is out of fashion these days so don´t expect much enthusiasm. It is very reminiscent of a poem by Oliver Fox. Nice imagery.

  8. You must be a very proud Mum to have such a talented and empathetic child. Let's hope when the raging hormones kick in in a couple of years he doesn't lose his obvious joy of life and caring. His imagery is wonderful and his thoughts are deep. I love it!

  9. I think the poem is nice, but it don't sound nothing like an 11 yr old wrote it. Just because he can right a good poem doesn't mean that he's a genius. A Genius has the ability  to invent something much more greater then a poem that doesn't even rhyme.

  10. Hi Mom, I am crying for gladness with you in my heart, what a happy day to have a son with such beauty in his heart!

  11. oh wow... you shud be a proud mommy. its such a beautiful poem. Your son is so intelligent.

  12. BEST I'VE READ FOR A LONG TIME.

  13. This is truly fine writing for any age, I am grateful to you for sharing this.

Buy this boy the works of William Blake, I think he deserves them.( Possibly also The Bardic Handbook by Kevan Manwaring - look at Yahoogroups, The Silver Branch Bardic Network)

  15. It is magic.

  16. Definitely a genius,Ms M.That's a beautiful poem and I wish I could write like that.My poems are more jokey style.Only wrote one serious poem and it depressed the h**l out of me! You can't hide your son's poem away in a drawer.Send it to the letters page of your local paper,or a radio station. It deserves to be recognized
