Question:

Is my son eligible for some sort of disability payment?

My son is 15 months old and has been taken out of daycare by his pediatrician. His immune system is not able to handle the germs and as a result he is continually sick and developing pneumonia because the illness sinks to his chest. He also has asthma and severe reflux issues. As a result I cannot work so I can stay home with him, but I am a single mom and money is just too tight for me not to work. There is nobody else to watch him during the day while I work. This has been going on since he was about 3 months old and every time is in a setting where he is around a lot of children, he picks up whatever germs he is around.

Is he eligible for some sort of disability if his doctor initiates it? Any ideas where I can see info about this online?

Thanks!

  1. You will have to check with the social security department about your questions but keep in mind whatever your child may get HAS to go towards the CHILD, to feed, clothe him plus provide a roof over his head.  It isn't for gas in your car or car insurance, it isn't to make payments on your car or YOUR portion of rent/mortgage.  It is to go towards food for HIM not you.  You will have to find other means of supporting yourself...you CAN use whatever you got in disability for him to pay for child care for him while you worked though.  You might try calling your local social services for child care for special needs children.

  2. Try here....

    Best of luck!!

  3. I vvould talk to your local health department, tell them your situation and that you are unable to vvork because of your sons condition. I vvould think that there is something out there like unemployment or disability that you could get since you are unable to vvork. Good Luck!

  4. i dont want to get off the subject here but has your son been tested for cystic fibrosis?  It was suggested that my son be tested because he kept getting respiratory illnesses and being hospitalized.

  5. Aw sweetheart! My little sister was pulled out of preschool for the same thing! You need to find a private day care where there are less kids. You need to speak to the daycare worker and explain your sons condition. My sister has a small private daycare which helps out sensitive children and she says she takes note of anything the parents tell her. When you are looking for a daycare for him INTERVIEW the person in charge. They should be caring of your little one and in no way dismissive of your sons condition. Also if you can get some information from your doctor about how to care for your child so you can hand it to her or show her so she has a better idea of what he needs. It almost made me cry to read this. I hope your little angel gets better and stronger each day.  As for getting some help its good to talk to your doctor and the health system in your area. Fight for your rights and your sons! :D

  6. first, the pediatrtion did not remove your son from daycare...you did on his advice. Go to the social service agency near you and inquire about private home daycares that only have a couple of children. Less children, less chances of catching things. Social services might even have funds to help pay for daycare and may now of a daycare for special needs children. I highly doubt your son would be eligible for disability payments. Its very common for children to pick up all kinds of illnesses from daycare or when they start school.
