  1. You need to get him tested. People on YA can't diagnose it. It sounds like he could but get him tested to find out. If he does not talk at 2 then that could be a problem but not necessarily autism. Get him tested.

  2. i think he has a high levle autism or asbergers

  3. Not all autistic kids spin and flap.  Neither my brother nor my cousin's son did that. Both are very intelligent.  They tend to be exceedingly focused on just what they are interested in, have difficulty controlling emotions, slow to learn speech, etc. etc.  It's a syndrome and different kids have different symptoms.

  4. sounds like it. I would definitely ask your doctor.

  5. If you have any concerns at all contact Early Intervention. That is what they are there for.  They will come out free of charge and evaluate your child. They will not be able to tell you if your child exhibits signs of Autism however they will be able to provide services for you and your child if deemed necessary. Good luck

  6. It does sound like your son fits the diagnosis of the ever growing autistic spectrum.  He has some great strengths, and is mildy afflicted.  Since he obviously has already been screened, and you were told that he is autistic his dx would be either PDD.NOS which is autistic features, or HFA (high functioning autism).  If you doubt the dx, then go get a second opinion from a neurologist, you need a brain specialist, forget psychologists.  A neuropsychologist would be even better.  Therapy will greatly improve your sons skills, and therefore will look less autistic.  Autism peaks at ages 2-3, after that the child greatly improves his functioning level.  It sounds like he is in really great shape.

My middle son is 34 months and PDD.NOS/asperger's.  He sounds similar to your son.  He does have speech delay, and according to the DSM should not carry a dx of asperger's but because of his asperger traits, and because of the experts at kennedy krieger he has it.  He lacks reciprocity, has intermittant eyecontact, has a narrowed range of interests, is emotionally labile, is aware of his surroundings, and answers to his name with a delay.  His speech is delayed both recessive (understanding) and expressive (speech).  He has a full range of emotion, does not spin wheels or line up toys, doesn't have echolalia--yet, has extreme executive functioning skills, is not delayed in fine motor, does not have a cognitive delay despite speech delays, he is affectionate, smiles and laughs appropriately, has difficulty following 2-3 step commands, does not engage in parallel play.  He is fully potty trained, even at night.

My son is serviced through early intervention.  He is getting OT on clinical opinion for sensory issues.  He gets speech 1X/week.  He will be transitioning into the free public preschool.  We already had our IEP transition meeting for the next school year.

The sensory issues will improve alot.  I was told by a neurologist that the sensory system isn't mature until age 6 for any kid, and for my son it wouldn't be till age 10.  This is my oldest autistic spectrum son age 7, will be 8.

  7. It would be highly inappropriate for anyone who has has not spent time with your son, and who is not qualified to diagnose autism, to tell you whether or not he is autistic. Only a qualified psychologist, developmental pediatrician, or other medical expert trained in this condition should be diagnosing children with it.

However, some of the symptoms that you describe are consistent with autism. Regardless of whether your son is truly autistic, he sounds like he has some communication and sensory issues that he needs help with. Therapy, provided that you have good therapists, should help with that. When he starts therapy, make sure to ask a lot of questions. Find out what kids of activities you can do at home with your son to help compliment what he is working on with the therapists.

In addition to that, at three-years old, your son should be able to attend your local school district preschool (assuming that you are in the U.S.) free of charge. This might really help him develop better social and communication skills. I would check into that.

    Good luck.
