We have like this safari activity mat and it has a bar that goes acorss it and you put the baby on it. Well I put my son on it today for the first time hes 5 weeks today. He was laying there and he would actually reach up and touch the hanging toys and hit them and make little noises as he did it. So I recorded it on my camera and emailed it to my mom and sis and they said he was too little to be doing that. So is he on track or ahead of a 5 week old baby? I mean did or when did your babies learn to hit the hanging toys on an activity mat? Im just curious. Thanks!!

  1. All babies are different, my son started rolling from belly to back at this stage. It didn't mean he was more advanced though as he didn't start walking till 14 months. He definately isn't behind though.

  2. omg 5 weeks thats so young but so cute maybe his just a very smart baby im sure there's nothing 2 worry about i think you shud put it on youtube for people to see because that seeems pretty unuasual i wanna see :P

  3. That is a normal age.  They see it, they want to touch it.  It is how they learn at this point.

  4. I think my baby was around 5-6 weeks. Everyone always told me she was ahead...but I wonder if they just don't remember the ages of their children when they did things? My baby was born...well strong. She was holding her head up the day she was born..which is why I think she could reach for toys so early. So if he is ahead...congrats! Wait for the joys to keep on coming!

  5. Normal. Our 5 week old would go absolutely crazy at 5 weeks in the play mat.  his arms and legs would be flying all over the place making all kinds of sounds.  he wasn't consicously/deliberately trying to grab / pull anything with his fingers though - that only starts later when the nervous system has developed more (around 3 months).
